I posted my own topic about this same thing and then found this thread.. I have a Samsung TV and It sees PMS without a hitch, I created a custom .conf file for my TV and PMS sees/detects the TV properly but the TV just wont play anything from it :(

what works:
PMS sees TV
TV sees PMS

What does not work:
PMS does not display the .png I set for the TV for some reason (I placed it in the renderers directory)
TV/PMS will not stream anything (I can see all directories and files but get "unsupported Format" error and I know its supported)

Hey.. not much of a coder these days but if you need a dump for Sony Bravia Tellys (I have a KDL40w5710) I will be happy to oblige.

@orthonovum
I discussed PMS as streaming server for a Samsung 46A956D TV recently. The owner of this tv got videoplayback running, only problems with playback of mp3 und jpg. You can read the discussion (in German) here: http://www.hifi-forum.de/index.php?action=browseT&forum_id=151&thread=9215

To get the png-picture working I think you have to put it in PMS source code subdirectory ..\resources\images\clients, compile PMS and install it again.

Did you modify settings in your custom *.conf file (other then for correct UPNP recognition)?
I provide NO application support via PM, so please post your question to the forum.

Hmm... if you create a renderer file that takes some of the information from the debug output then the status changes and the PS3M server tells me that its not a PS3 but it may work. Gives an Orange Triangle.

THe TV on the other hand tells me that the PS3M server is an incompatible media device.

The output from debug.log says:

I made a renderer file called BRAVIA.conf

Everything the same as PS3 except the top part i changed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#------------------------------------------------------------
# ps3mediaserver profile for ps3
# DO NOT MODIFY THIS (OR AT YOUR OWN RISK)

#------------------------------------------------------------
# General informations / detection

RendererName=Bravia Televisions
RendererIcon=ps3.png

#UserAgent: regular expression to detect the connected renderer
UserAgentSearch=UPnP/1.0

#UserAgentAdditionalHeaders: additional http header for better detection
UserAgentAdditionalHeader=X-AV-Client-Info
UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch="Sony Corporation"

#Basic capabilities

So the Server seems to understand the TV but the TV wants more from the server to play nice it would seem.

to sum up:

Only the PS3, Xbox360 and Popcorn Hour have been succesfully reported as working media renderers
These TVs seems to need a server who is very respectful of the dlna spec 1.0... or ps3 media server is NOT really good at this
the server implements some parts of the spec, but not all of them (maybe I should rectify the description of the google code project btw)
twonky, nero and minidlna seems the best servers out there regarding this aspect (mediatomb as well I guess)

@shagrath Do you have a DLNA 1.0 spec? I have struggled to find anyone who has ever even seen it, given the $500 price tag... :shock:

Then, you discontinue the research of our TVs? :(
