Discuss alternative media renderers (not PS3) supported by PS3 Media Server (e.g. Xbox 360, TVs &c.)

Official thread for non-ps3 renderers (Bravia, etc.)

In PMS 1.11 you can create a *.conf file in subdirectory renderers in PMS install-directory for new streaming clients aka media renderers. Has anyone tested this feature with builtin streaming clients of TVs like Sony Bravia or Samsung? I'd like to buy a new TV in near future and would be interested in using streaming capabilities of the new TVs. Maybe someone can share experience...

Here's an example for Sony Bravia 5 series. I didn't have a chance to test ist yet...

Code: Select all
#————————————————————
# ps3mediaserver profile for Sony Bravia TV
# DO NOT MODIFY THIS (OR AT YOUR OWN RISK)

#————————————————————
# General informations / detection

RendererName=Sony Bravia TV
RendererIcon=bravia.png

#UserAgent: regular expression to detect the connected renderer
UserAgentSearch=BRAVIA

#UserAgentAdditionalHeaders: additional http header for better detection
UserAgentAdditionalHeader=X-AV-Client-Info
UserAgentAdditionalHeaderSearch=BRAVIA

#Basic capabilities
# Bravia 4 Video=false, Bravia 5 Video=true
Video=true
Audio=true
Image=true

#————————————————————
# DLNA settings

#Use the DLNA feature seek by time and not by range
#SeekByTime=true
SeekByTime=false

#————————————————————
# Transcoding/Muxing capabilities
#

#Transcode codecs for video and audio engines
#currently supported: MPEGAC3 or WMV for video, PCM or MP3 for audio
TranscodeVideo=MPEGAC3
TranscodeAudio=PCM

#Use default DVD buffer size: false = greater bitrate and faster encoding,
#but can generate incompatible videos, depends of your media renderer
#DefaultVBVBufSize=false
DefaultVBVBufSize=true

#Muxing capabilities: Does the media renderer supports H264 and MPEG2 in a mpegts file ?
#MuxH264ToMpegTS=true
MuxH264ToMpegTS=false

#Does the media renderer supports DTS in a mpeg file ?
MuxDTSToMpeg=false

#Does the media renderer supports DTS wrapped into LPCM in a mpeg file ?
#WrapDTSIntoPCM=true
WrapDTSIntoPCM=false

#Does the media renderer supports LPCM in a mpeg file ?
#MuxLPCMToMpeg=true
MuxLPCMToMpeg=false

#Maximum bitrate supported by the media renderer (0=unlimited)
MaxVideoBitrateMbps=0

#Max Width and Height supported by the media renderer (0=unlimited)
MaxVideoWidth=0
MaxVideoHeight=0

#————————————————————
# Misc Files

# Mime types transforms (oldmime=newmime|olemime2=newmime2|…)
#MimeTypeChanges=video/avi=video/x-divx

# Extensions management: no need to put something here, as the server’s default configuration is tuned for ps3
# What extensions are forcefully transcoded
TranscodeExtensions=wav,mpg,mpeg,mpe,ts,tp,m2t,m2ts,m2p,mts,vob,gif,tif,tiff,png,bmp,wma,mkv,hdmov,hdm,flac,fla,dts,ogg,asf,asx,m2v
# What extensions are forcefully streamd as is (and not transcoded)
StreamExtensions=

One has to create a bravia.png picture to make it perfect ;)

In debug.log one can find the name of a streaming client in ordner to make a custom *.conf file, e.g.:
Code: Select all
X-AV-Client-Info: av=5.0; cn="Sony Corporation"; mn="BRAVIA KDL-40W4500/47  "; mv="1.7";
X-AV-Client-Info: av=5.0; cn="Sony Corporation"; mn="BRAVIA KDL-37V5500     "; mv="1.7";

It would be nice to get some feedback regarding PMS with other streaming clients than PS3, XBOX360 and Popcornhour.

Hi I am new to this forum
I just downloaded the v1.11 for osx and copied the text you provided into /applications/ps3 media server.app/contents/resources/java/renderers
the file name is bravia.conf
my tv is KDL-46WE5
the network on the tv should work ok since it was able to use google map for the pictures i took
I tried to update the server list from the tv but it wasnt able to discover any.
Thank you if you need more info on this I will try my best to provide
P.S please excuse my poor english as english is not my mother tongue

Hi, recently I had a discussion in another forum helping a guy get PMS running on his Samsung TV: http://www.hifi-forum.de/index.php?action=browseT&forum_id=151&thread=9215. As you can read (in German) Videos worked well, only problems with MP3 and JPG which we couldn't solve yet.
You should start the streaming client on your Bravia TV (I don't know how to that, haven't seen it live yet...) and then start PMS. After a few seconds PMS should find a "Unknown Renderer". If your *.conf file is set correctly PMS recognizes the renderer with correct name (like set in *.conf file).
You can find the correct name settings for *.conf file in debug.log (X-AV-Client-Info: ...) as mentioned before.

But wait.... sth is strange. Is it possible that you just downloaded the sourcecode? I'm no OSX guy and don't know the directory structure there... You have to put the *.conf in the renderers subdirectory of the installed PMS.

Did you try PMS with your PS3 and OSX? Does it work?

i have a bravia 32w5500 and would love to get pms working with it!

You say save the *.conf file to the renderers directory....I'm running pms on windoze and have no renderers directory :)

ok thanks, that got me the directory I was looking for.

Unfortunatley still no joy as yet. The TV does nit detect pms as a valid media server, it's not availible and a server check has it identified as "not supported".
All I get from the pms debug.log is:

Hi.

I have tested the bravia.conf with my Sony KDL-40E5520 but the TV seems not being able to work with the PS3MediaServer. When performing the serverdiagnosis on the Sony the TV states that the media server is not supported (the server is getting recognized, so it is not a connectivity issue).

The log tab in the PMS application does not show any errors, the debug.log looks as follows:

As far as I know the Sony requires DLNA 1.0. Is there anything that can be done to force the usage of DLNA 1.0?

Thx.

Re: Has anyone tested other streaming clients with new PMS 1.11?

Postby drewy » Tue May 05, 2009 8:47 pm

In an attempt to get a "cleane" debug.log to post I restarted pms but could not delete the debug.log, a process still had it open...
Anyway I then killed a number of javavm processes and could then delete the log file.
Restarted pms and this time the "Status" tab reports Sony Bravia TV as a detected media device. Still nothing showing up on the tv however. If I run a Server "check" it finds pms but comes back with "This server is not supported".
I can't seem to attach the debug.log file....

cheers

post from Chris in my blog about this topic

Postby otmanix » Tue May 05, 2009 8:57 pm

Hi PMS-forum and Shagrath,
with PMS 1.11beta one can try to edit a renderer.conf file to support a new media renderer, e.g. a streaming client within a tv. I know that the main focus for PMS is supporting PS3. But I think this is a really great opportunity for us to test other streaming clients with PMS as well.

Chris posted this debug.log in my blog and asked for help to get the streaming client in his Sony BRAVIA KDL-40E5520 tv running with PMS.

Does anybody here see the problem why the TV is complaining that PMS is "not supported"?
I provide NO application support via PM, so please post your question to the forum.

Re: Has anyone tested other streaming clients with new PMS 1.11?

seems the TV doesn't like the UPnP_AV_ConnectionManager_1.0.xml file ?
maybe you can try this one . just unzip the contents into the main dir
