Singe frequency noise

Postby Lionhead » Thu Apr 24, 2014 12:34 pm

Hello

After a upgrade to Ubuntu 14.04 the PMS seems to have issues with audio playback on the client side. In the default setting and playback video files get a horrible noise of a single frequency.

I'm using a PS3 connected to the TV and amplifier on the client side and I know it's not the machine that is faulty as It can both play games, netflix, youtube and even mp3-files within the PMS.
The issue seems to be related to Mencoder. I can play mp3 without any issues, and the image part of the video playback works fine. I've also been able to get decent audio in the video files by using the #Transcoder# folder and ffmpeg option...(This was with UMS and not PMS). The problem is that my video files lies so deep in the directory tree that I cannot usually access this folder without it refusing to open a folder. It seems to be a limit as do how deep I can go.

I've been using this setup with All ubuntus from 12.10-13.10 without any issues.

Thanks for any help that might shed som light on this.

Good I'm not the only one.. Is there a way to either change to ffmpeg or change Mencoder to work with the PMS-setup?

Same problem with Mint 17 Cinnamon 64 bits. It was working with Mint 16 same edition.

- Sound is working great with MKV (but embedded subtitles aren't displayed)
- the loud whiny buzzing noise is only for AVI videos

I have a fresh install of Mint Cinnamon 64 and get that too. I have tried installing 1.90.1 (from noobslabs ppa) and 1.81.0+mencoder from happyNeko ppa but I keep getting the same result. Music streaming works fine but for all of the videos I'm trying to stream (mostly avi but there was one mkv and one mpg in there) I get the same noise (like hair clippers) together with the ac3 channel layout not specified message.I like to know when there's a fix.
Streaming from my windows box is working just fine with the same settings so we can rule out the renderer (ps3).
Thx and cheers,
F
