Does PMS work with the iPAD

Discuss alternative media renderers (not PS3) supported by PS3 Media Server (e.g. Xbox 360, TVs &c.)

Does PMS work with the iPAD

Postby jweaver » Sun Jul 21, 2013 12:43 pm

I have been using TVersity for years and have generally been happy.. I used to stream to my PS3 but now I am more often streaming to my iPad using apps such as Airplayer and Aceplayer and they worked fine.

But I have just (Finally) upgraded to Win7 and realised that TVersity is no longer free.. I decided its time to change and looked at PMS, but I couldn't stream to either app.

Is this even possible? Am I wasting my time? Or is there a way (Profile/config) to make this work?

PMS will recognize AirPlayer and streams just fine; works both for my iPhone and iPad.
Aceplayer isn't recognized, but it should work just as well.

Very odd.. I tried and I ended up with a "Transcoding" folder in every directory that I tried.. And I just got a blank screen until it went back to the menu again.

I think I will try again.. Currently playing with Twonky, which isn't free.

I see that VLC for iOS now supports uPnP but I can't get it to see PMS, anyone else had any luck?

I can see pms when going to the local network section, but haven't got any folders when entering it. I can't see any reason for that in the pms logs. The renderer hasn't got a profile though
Code: Select all
INFO  2013-09-07 10:52:07.795 [New I/O server worker #1-2] Media renderer was not recognized. Possible identifying HTTP headers: User-Agent: VLC%20for%20iOS/2.1 CFNetwork/609.1.4 Darwin/13.0.0
If you always wanted to have your most recent videos at the top of the folder in the ps3 or wished you could group all videos with the same genre in one folder, have a look at pms-mlx

Hi.

I'm having the same problem. PS3 Media Server cannot recognize VLC player on iPhone nor iPad. Can this client be added to the configuration files? VLC is a pretty popular player and it's a shame PMS doesn't support it.

I can add my voice to the people who don't get any folder or file listings at all from the media server via VLC on an iPhone.

Is there a proper place to report this bug?
