Postby mazey » Mon Jul 15, 2013 8:33 am

could we get more logging with ffmpeg enabled similiar to mencoder as im using ffmpeg as my main transcoder now its working properly :) and it just shows the command and thats it..

or is there a way to change it myself, it used to show a few lines once executed how do i get that back, using latest snapshot build..

thanks

If you want to add more logging, check FFmpegVideo.java.

not really sure what i need to change for more logging.

also any chance of this being pulled to speed up ffmpeg starting. thx

4 second start down from 8 seconds, so good. similiar to when transcodefaststart=true and mencoder start speeds of 4 seconds though ffmpeg was still taking 8 seconds to start even with true.

Ah, I think the logging you are talking about is the output of mencoder itself - not PMS. I compared MencoderVideo.java and FFmpegVideo.java and there is no significant difference in logging between the two.

Perhaps ffmpeg has a flag to produce more output?
Add that flag, and the info will probably show up in the debug.log.

what i notice though is it uses -loglevel fatal, and it has no reference to fatal in that .java file. mencoder shows stuff like the version what codecs its using and kbits and stuff like 15-20 lines, yeah its from the actual program. i guess if ffmpeg -loglevel (not fatal but something less fatal) it would show something similiar, im not really that great at knowing logging levels. its not a huge deal but if a dev knows how to get it to show abit of info and likes the idea it would be nice to do since mencoder does it. make it more uniform like.

this has been fixed to the way it used to be showing the logging info of a file with this commit in the latest snapshot :)
