Postby cooltwou » Tue Jun 04, 2013 4:13 pm

I am having a problem trying to stream some stuff though the Xbox 360 it stats like it is going to show the media in the folder but it has some circle going around & around but doesn't every come up with anything what could the problem be

How many files are in the directory? Usually when you get stalling like that its because you have to many videos in a single folder. Ive found the best way to speed up media browsing is to wrap each movie into its own directory, and the top level directories should have no videos in it. For series I try not to put more than 10 videos in a folder.

Example my media collection is sorted like this.

Z:
----directory
--------movie
----directory(single movie)
--------movie
----directory(duology/trilogy/etc)
--------subdirectory
------------movie
--------subdirectory
------------movie
--------subdirectory
------------movie

Tv series and anime would look more like this

Z:
----directory
--------subdirectory(single season or group of episodes)
------------video
------------video
------------video
------------video
------------video
------------video
--------subdirectory
------------video
------------video
------------video
------------video
------------video
------------video

Wel I think you can get the idea here. The other thing is if the XBOX 360 is your primary media renderer you probably want to go through your collection and convert everything to have only 2 channel audio. Its a completely ignorant and synthetic limitation that MS decided to impose on the device, but it is the way it is. Transcoding video is always tougher than streaming so forward converting your media to make it compatible will save you headaches in the future. Handbrake is great for converting batches of video, and there are guides on how to use it to make your stuff Xbox 360 compatible all over the net.

Which transcode engines do you have enabled? If MEncoder is not enabled with WMV/WMA enabled you will never have contents displayed unless its Xvid/H.264 with only 2 channels of audio in AAC format, or WMV video with only 2 channels of audio. The XBOX 360 is a gimp renderer even though it has the hardware to curn through anything we would want to throw at it.

Also if you could post the "Media Info" on one of the files your trying to play that could also help track down the issue.

The MEncoder is what is listed under transcoding & the System I use for Streaming Media is the PS3 but the files I am talking about would only play thought the transcoding folders & then sometimes if would skip part of the show so I thought they might play better on the 360 but I can't get them to show.

How do I get the Media Info & if I have to use a program can you give me the steps on how I do it

Humm Im running out of ideas here. That media file should be natively playable on the PS3 and the XBOX360 as its 2channel AAC audio and Level 3.1 H.264.
