Problem loading external subs with MKV

Postby cdechery » Mon Apr 08, 2013 1:25 am

Using version 1.72.0 with Playstation with MEncoder.

Whenever I'm playing an MKV file with buit-in subtitles, I can't get the external subtitle to load. PMS will simply ignore it and load the built-ins instead.

Even though, in PS3, there's the TRANSCODE folder where I can select the sub language I want, and on the outsite there's a file which says "External Subtitle" it's not working. I tried it with two different movies, both of them with more than one built-in sub language. The external sub (which is the one I want) won't load.

The external sub will load perfectly fine if there is no built-in sub in the movie file.

Any ideas?

I have the same problem since I have installed PMS 1.80.
I tried with an older version (1.60) and the problem has disappeared.

I don't understand why. Maybe a bug ?

Hello again,

I don't find any solution to the problem.
In my case, I want to see MKV with french subtitles (srt). But I can only see the integrate sub in the mkv file.

My settings :
Common Transcode settings > Subtitles settings :
Subtitle langage priority : fre,...
Forced sub : fr
Forced tag : Forced
Automatically load *srt... is check

MEncoder> Subtitles settings :
Audio/Subtitles langage priority : *,fr;*,fre

The srt file is named like that : example.fr.srt

The problem disappears if I use an older version (1.60) with the same settings.
But I can't keep the older version because some video not working with this version.
Dilemma... :?

Is there a solution or I need to wait a new version ?

Thanks for your answers

If there is a bug in PMS that internal subs are preferred instead of external ones, you can fool it by using language which is not embedded.
So if your embedded subs are FR, use "example.jpn.srt" and set "*,jpn;*,fre" in audio/sub priority.
PMS will find JPN as external subs only so they will be played. If not found, it will try to load next priority and it is FRE. It should load external ones if also internal ones are found but if it doesn't work this way, it is a bug in newer versions of PMS.

I had the same problem: subtitles not working anymore with MKV files since I installed 1.81.0 version.
The problem is that I was used to check/uncheck the option to disable definitively subtitles with 1.70.1 version. As this option is no more available with 1.81.0 version I was unable to uncheck the option.
So I reinstalled 1.70.1 (downoald here: http://www.digital-digest.com/software/ ... story.html), I launched this version, I unchecked the option then Save and quit.
I launched 1.81.0 version and I get subtitles !!!

I Hope this help others.

I have unchecked this option on 1.70.1 and after instaling 1.81 I still have this problem.
When I launch *.mkv with Polish subs I have Eng/Pol subs on the same time

check SNAPSHOT build viewtopic.php?f=14&t=14753. This issue should be fixed.
If not try removing configuration file (PMS.conf) with server restart.
