Sony Bravia doesn't show .mkv file supplied via PMS

Postby Leopard2A5 » Wed May 23, 2012 5:34 pm

I access PMS via my Sony Bravia KDL40EX655.
When i navigate to a folder with the movie in a .mkv file the TV says there's no file there, although it clearly IS there.

The TV accesses my LAN by wifi and the PC is connected by cable.
Intel core i7-950, 6GB RAM

PMS runs with the default configuration when it comes to rendering/muxing, etc.

MediaInfo's output:

Hi Brother. I bought this TV last week and found myself in trouble too. But I found a way.

PS3 Media Server, unfortunately, doesn't recognize Sony Bravia KDL-40EX655 automatically. So, go to General Configuration tab and set "Default renderer when automatic detection fails" to "Sony Bravia EX Series" and be happy. Don't worry if your PC fan starts to run at full speed. PMS needs to process videos before sending it to Sony Bravia EX Series. At least, I think it works this way.

If you're using a Ethernet cable, you can choose a high quality on "Transcoding Settings" tab. Go to "Video quality settings" and set "MPEG-2 options" to "keyint=5:vqscale=1:vqmin=1 /* Lossless quality */". You can force it a little more setting this way "keyint=1:vqmax=1:vqmin=1".

But, if you bought the wireless adapter (wi-fi dongle) like me, make a several quality tests like the above, because for certain HD or Full HD videos Sony wi-fi adapter cannot handle the amount of data to receive. So you'll have to set "MPEG-2 options" to "keyint=25:vqmax=5:vqmin=2 /* Good quality for HD Wifi transcoding */" or "keyint=25:vqmax=7:vqmin=2 /* Medium quality for HD Wifi transcoding */".

These setting worked fine to me. I hope I helped you and I hope PMS developers fix this problem.

i would force the braviahx.conf with that model as it streams most formats and only transcodes mkv. ure tv should support avi/mp4/mpg etc being a 2012 model.
