PMS 1.80.0 problem

Postby Mmxsc » Tue Apr 09, 2013 9:28 am

Hello!

I have been using PMS 1.72.0 for some time and i haven't had any problem with it all, but yesterday i found out that 1.80.0 was released and when i uninstalled PMS 1.72.0 and installed PMS 1.80.0 i get a problem.

Every movie i open as either .rar or avi or .mkv i usually can see how long each "movie" in length like 50 min and 30 sec but now after update all files has the same length that is like 9 hours 58 min and 59 sec and they work to look on them but when i try to go forward in the movie the sounds gets out of sync and kinda in slow-motion.

i use Windows 8 x64, 22gb ram, gtx 580 and Intel Core i7 930.

I have tried to reinstall and check settings but i'm not that good at this stuff so i have no idea how to fix this problem.

when i reinstall 1.72.0 everything works again.

Sounds like 1.72 was streaming the files for you and 1.80 is transcoding them.

PMS can send files to your player as they are (= "streaming"), or it can change the files to a different format and send the resulting data (= "transcoding").
Streaming is best; it doesn't require much work on your computer's side. Transcoding costs computing power and if it is done wrong it can mangle the data transcoded from your files, much like you report. So PMS tries to determine whether or not your player can handle a file. If it can, PMS will stream the contents of the file. If it cannot, PMS will transcode the file and send the transcoded contents.

From what you describe, it sounds like PMS 1.72 was streaming the files, whereas 1.80 appears to be mangling them and therefore must be transcoding.

To me it is interesting to learn what causes that difference. :-)
