Sony BDP-S590

Discuss alternative media renderers (not PS3) supported by PS3 Media Server (e.g. Xbox 360, TVs &c.)

So far this has been the best edit thus far that's made almost everything playable. Without changing ANY other settings.

Code: Select all
Supported = f:avi   v:mp4   a:ac3|lpcm|mpa|mp3   m:video/mp4

Removing the divx file type has actually given me about 70% file play across the board.

I'm going to post the media info on the files that won't play and then we can focus on those next. I think it was actual .mp4 files and divx that wouldn't play but I'll make a list with info...

I'm going to attack my music videos folder first...

Keep in mind I'm posting file names, which isn't relevant (it's only relevant for my use on tracking down what does and doesn't play).

Geto Boys.mpeg
Gravediggaz-Diary of a madman.mp4
Gravediggaz-Nowhere to Run.mpg
Edward Maya.avi

By "not playable" you mean not streamable in it's native format, right? Technically anything that can't be played should be getting transcoded so it can be.

We would need to know the actual video codec, audio codec, and if there are subtitles involved (regardless of if they're a separate file or disabled by default). You already have MP4 as a supported container type, and we can't assume it's h264 video if it's not playing back.

When I say it won't play, I mean via streaming from PMS through bluray.

Updated the previous post... Attaching media info now!

Left side is what doesn't play and it's highlighted, right side is what plays with only the avi edit...

All are videos.

Update, I have to RESTART PMS after doing edits... DUHR.

Those 2 files on the left now stream after changing it to:

Code: Select all
Supported = f:mp4|m4v         v:mp4|h264        a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3   m:video/mp4

Good to hear. But I would hope you didn't change anything since you need both lines. That was on my conf.

Code: Select all
Supported = f:mp4|m4v      v:mp4|h264   a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3      m:video/mp4

I think it's odd having m4v listed but I guess if you have stuff you encoded yourself for playback on an iPod or Apple TV you could stream it then, too. The Apple purchased ones wouldn't play, though.

Sigh. It's different being on the other end of the spectrum having no clue what I'm doing. LOL.

Seafox, thanks again for helping me with this. I think I had an issue prior to using your conf because Java tossed an error when I went back in my log manager to yesterday.

Side note: I'm running UMS now NOT PMS. But essentially it's the same thing minus the obvious name change.

With the 2 posted edits I did, 90% of all files play which to me is a total win!

Below are the ONLY issues I found while in my /HD folder. I highlighted what I think are the issues. Let me know if you see what's wrong because I'm personally clueless on this.

Left side = failed to stream, right side = streamed. (Let me know if your conf file settings would correct this as I'm trying to hit everything one at a time but this nails all the issues).

You can't stream that as is. It's beyond the official processing abilities of the blu-ray player.
It's possible to stream it, but I don't recommend you do.

Well.... I was able to get Terminator 2 to stream...

All other 720p/1080p videos stream too...

My final edits were as follows which are nearly identical to your conf minus a few that weren't changed:

Change this line:
Code: Select all
Supported = f:avi|divx        v:divx|mp4        a:ac3|lpcm|mpa|mp3                        m:video/mpeg

To this:
Code: Select all
Supported = f:avi        v:mp4        a:ac3|lpcm|mpa|mp3                        m:video/mp4

Change this line:
Code: Select all
Supported = f:mp4|m4v         v:mp4|h264        a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3   m:video/mpeg

To this:
Code: Select all
Supported = f:mp4|m4v         v:mp4|h264        a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3   m:video/mp4

Change this line:
Code: Select all
Supported = f:mkv             v:mp4|divx|h264   a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3   m:video/x-matroska

To this:
Code: Select all
Supported = f:mkv             v:mp4|h264   a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3   m:video/x-matroska

Can you explain why you removed this line?

Code: Select all
Supported = f:mpegts          v:h264|vc1        a:ac3|dts|dtshd|truehd|aac|lpcm|mpa|mp3   m:video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts

Note: Replies from me will be delayed as I'm actually at work now.

That's the remux transport stream support. It's the very issue I mentioned on the previous page.

SeaFox wrote:There are still a couple things I don't believe work yet on the 2012 model players and can't be fixed with just profile changes.
  • Remuxing h264 into a MPEGTS stream. There is some change needed to the DLNA.ORG_PN value being sent for it to work I think. Works on my 580, not on the 390.
    ...

This isn't really needed now so much now because of other changes on the profile. You see, PS3MS used to take the video stream from MKV files and remux it into a MPEGTS stream to send it without transcoding it This is how you played MKV files with the original profile conf and it works fine on 2011 (BDP-Sx80) and before players. This does not work on 2012 (BDP-Sx90) and later model players. But with the changes on Axcess_Denied's conf MKV files are now listed as "MKV" and stream directly fine (which makes no sense given what I know of MKV playback). Anyway, so I removed the line because I'm trying to make a single universal conf file with both players I have here. Until the DLNA.ORG_PN change is made for streams that use h264, that old line isn't supported on new players.

There's a patch for MiniDLNA to fix this issue (MiniDLNA streams everything in MPEGTS), but I haven't had a chance to try it as I use MiniDLNA as a PBI for FreeNAS, and you have to build from source to apply the .diff in this case.
