Re: Run PMS as a service

Hi all,

been trying to get PMS to run as a service, but hit a little snag:

I can start the service, but even though the wrapper is in the firewall exclusion, it does not work unless Windows Firewall is off. Even then, the PS3 sees the service, I can watch stuff but the PMS client does not see the PS3.

If I disable the service, and enable the Windows Firewall, the PS3 sees the service, I can watch stuff, and the PMS client sees the PS3.

What am I missing here?

Expected behavior, and since the PS3 sees the content, doesn't sound like there are any issues except for the firewall (follow the FAQ - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3507&start=20#p34933)
The GUI and the service are disconnected, and any statuses in the GUI (detected clients, content being served, etc) are not applicable to the service. If you want to modify settings for the service, you can either modify the PMS.conf directly, or you can stop the service, open the GUI, change and save settings, close the GUI, and then start the service again.
I provide NO application support via PM or email, so please post your question to the forum per the Forum Rules.

As described in an other post of mine you've to add the service wrapper executable to the windows firewall exception list.

ok remove pms from the exclusion list (its probably added wrong) now make sure in firewall you tick notify me when a application is blocked, now run the wrapper.exe from the "c:\program files (x86)\ps3 media server\win32\service" directory and not from services, let it launch in the console a few seconds later you should get a notification now allow, now close the console box and run ps3 media server from services. problem should be solved.

Hello.
You want that I copy the wrapper.exe in the "win32" directory?
And then I must double-click on this exe?
Thanks.

i had the directory slightly wrong a wrapper.exe file is in this folder this is the one you should be doubleclicking

"c:\program files (x86)\ps3 media server\win32\service"

the first time so u see the firewall notification. just do as above. after u unblock it then u can run it from services.

Re: Run PMS as a service

Postby cheungs7 » Thu Jun 12, 2014 2:03 am

HI all,

I'm trying to run PSM as a service on my Win7 Home PC over the wireless network.

I have the service installed and running, but the PS3 cannot find PSM for some reason.
However, when I stop the service, and run PSM as a desktop application, my PS3 can see it as normal.

I checked the wrapper.log file and found the following warning. I guess it is because of this issue. Can anyone help me on how to resolve this?

As many users have problems with the current service wrapper in use, why not switch to an alternative as I previously suggested. Besides the JavaService I suggested initially we have made good experiences with YAJSW

It's very straight forward and simple to configure and supports many platforms including Windows 32/64-bits.
