This is now the situation:

I can start the service, but even though the wrapper is in the firewall exclusion, it does not work unless Windows Firewall is off. Even then, the PS3 sees the service, I can watch stuff but the PMS client does not see the PS3.

If I disable the service, and enable the Windows Firewall, the PS3 sees the service, I can watch stuff, and the PMS client sees the PS3.

what am I missing here?

anyone else have this issue?

It also seems to me that when running as a service, there are fewer lag/stuttering events?

the max heap size is 1024 with 32 bit java which is what pms comes with, if you do abit of searching someone compiles the 64 bit version u can replace the wrapper files with then u can set it higher :)

well i didnt read the entire thread but i had a firewall issue also make sure you turn the firewall on and you have the option that shows u when a program is blocked so you can allow it, then for the first time you run the wrapper.exe file in c:\program files(x86)\ps3 media server\win32\service so pms launches locally with a console box youll see the request then and then allow it for firewall then close the console box and go into services and run pms normally. this is what i did hope thats what u mean.
