Running Media Server locally without internet?

Hey Guys,
I've been running the PMS for about a year or so in my house and absolutely love it. My roomate however moved out and doesn't have internet where he is currently. He has a playstation3, a laptop, and an external drive that has all of his music / videos on it. Is there anyway for the laptop to have the PMS installed, and the ps3 to see it without having the internet? Can you connect an ethernet cable directly from the laptop to the ps3 and it read the media server, or what would the cheapest way to do this be?

He COULD format the external drive to fat32, but won't be able to play the 4+ gig blu rays anylonger, which would be a bummer. Any other ideas for him to be able to run the media server without the internet?

Okay,

I'll put it simple as possible

Leave Wireless settings as is.

Now edit the Ethernet (Wired)

IP: 10.1.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: BLANK
DNS: 10.1.1.1

Now edit the PS3
IP: 10.1.1.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.1.1.1
DNS: 10.1.1.1

Now open PMS and go to General Configuration Tab
Look for the [Force] area and select your wired card.
force the IP to 10.1.1.1

Save settings, reboot PMS and should work like a charm.
