Root folder showing as 93GB file instead of folder

Postby ShadowPuppet » Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:05 am

Hi there,

I have been running into an issue with the server. When I originally run it it starts up fine, everything is displayed correctly. The way I have been doing it is as soon as I finish a movie my TV (Samsung through AllShare Play) disconnects from the server. An hour or so later if I try to go back to the server to watch another movie, it then shows my root folder being displayed as a 93GB file with the option to try and play this file.

So my root folder is /home/rossvaller/media and on first run it shows media as a folder which then has subfolders, one for each movie. After a seemingly random amount of time, the media folder shows as a 93GB "file" which my renderer, either the PS3 or my TV, shows as "playable". Naturally I get an error if I try to play this file.

When I went to check if there were logs of this, there weren't any...

The server runs as "ps3mediauser" as suggested in the config file. Here is what my config looks like:

http://pastebin.com/fL1nYyQc

Please help as this is unfortunately annoying as I have to restart the server every time this happens in order to be able to watch a movie. Also if there is anything else I can do to make this a bit more understandable, please let me know.

Thanks a ton in advance!!

First of all, shut down PMS and remove ~/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS/PMS.conf:

Code: Select all
mv ~/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS.conf ~/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS.conf.bak

Then re-enter and save your settings in the GUI.

The sample PMS.conf exists for documentation purposes, and should not be used as an actual configuration file since it may hardwire values that conflict with internal defaults assigned in future PMS releases. The automatic creation of this file (via /etc/skel/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS.conf) in the Ubuntu PPA is a bug.

Hi there,

I am not using the GUI as this is a ubuntu server install with command line access only... should I still delete that file and add in only the required options?

Thanks :)

Yes. The main one being folders e.g.:

Code: Select all
folders = /media/MyDrive/Media/Foo,/media/MyHD/Bar

Alternatively, if you have lots of customizations, you can configure PMS on your desktop, then adjust the saved PMS.conf and copy it over to the server.

Hey man,

I tried that last night and it was fine when I restarted as usual, but then after watching a movie it did the same thing. I managed to capture a screenshot of what it looks like on my TV:

Hopefully that helps!

Cheers

For starters, /home/ps3mediauser/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS.conf is not writable.
