OK I have tried the latest snapshot build now, it crashes with a DNLA error when trying to list the contents in the directory. So here is a copy of the latest debug.log (I turned on TRACE logging)

There's no error reported in that logfile. Is it from a session the DLNA error occurred in?

Yeah it was, I have done another try and will attach the debug.log from it. The error message on the PS3 was A DLNA protocol error (2006) has occured. Coming back to my PC and java reported that the program had crashed so not sure if it had a chance to write it to the debug.log or not.

Well I have run combofix to check for spyware/malware, also thought maybe my 32bit version of java was out of date so installed the latest 32 bit version. Same error with the snapshot build.

So unless you need to do more than just download the latest jar file and rename it pms.jar to install it im stumped. 1.70.1 is working fine and 1.71.0 doesn't crash just shows subtitles....

Try looking for an hs_err file (see the comments for Windows locations).

I'm sorry I cant get java to write a hs_err file have reinstalled java added the debug flag (-XX:ErrorFile= e:\temp) no error file is getting created in there. Searched for log files on both C and E drive no hs_err log files to be found.

Think I managed to get slightly different output in the debug.log file...so will attach it but not sure what else to do I'm sorry.

Java (JVM) crashes are pretty much impossible for anyone who doesn't work on the JVM to diagnose/fix. Hopefully, as you suggest, it's a 64/32-bit issue that will be resolved in the next release. Thanks, anyway.

Just a thought, is the .mkv 'hard-subbed'? If so, then the subtitles are embedded in the video container itself and they will show up no matter what.

They don't show up on the previous version 1.70.1 with exactly the same settings. So don't think that is the case.
