Is a network cable faster than wireless?

Lately, I've been watching higher quality films on my PS3 using wireless. However, it lags a lot and takes a long time to buffer. So I was wondering if a network cable directly connecting the computer to the PS3 will stop this lag and transfer info faster? Are there any other ways to make it stop lagging?

Network cable is of course faster than wireless connection.
You should try it before thinking of any other solution.
