I had the same question and decided to try this and it worked.

Enter this command into terminal and it will ask you if you want to upgrade.

sudo apt-get install ps3mediaserver

Upgrades you to 1.70

There are no special steps required (assuming you are on Ubuntu 12.04+ and have official package installed viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13046). You''ll be prompted for update from Ubuntu update manager.

You can remove your old config file (HOME_DIRECTORY/.config/ps3mediserver/PMS.conf) and restart server if you want to reset it to (updated) default settings though.

As stated in the release notes, you should do this when upgrading to 1.70.0.
