Config files Philips TV's 2009,2010,2011,2012

Discuss alternative media renderers (not PS3) supported by PS3 Media Server (e.g. Xbox 360, TVs &c.)

Hi

I have a new model Philips47PFL6907. This tv has a lot of native support. However I need the mkv files to be trancoded, so I can simply choose a subtitle. When playing a file without transcoding it plays smooth. But when transcoding it goes bad. The video stutters sometimes. I run version 1.70.1. De tv is detected with the PhilipsPFL.conf. Is it possible to just use transcoding for the subtitles? It is no nessecary to transcode the audio and video stream.

Best regards,

Ruud.

Hi rboersma,
When playing a file without transcoding it plays smooth. But when transcoding it goes bad. The video stutters sometimes.

The question is why the video stutters?
This can be caused by a couple of reasons. for example:

-> Low system performance (CPU).
In this case the transcode-buffer fills hardly, or the transcode-buffer gets empty with some fast action scenes.
FAQ: Minimum System/Network Requirements for Stutter-free Playback

-> Slow wireless network.
It is best to use a wired connection.
FAQ: How can I fix/reduce stuttering video playback?

-> A too high MPEG-2 bitrate for the tv.
I doubt this, because i tweaked the max bitrate into the config-file with my older (2010) Phillips TV.

De tv is detected with the PhilipsPFL.conf

You should try the PhilipsPFLxxx7 1.0.conf for more native support with your 47PFL6907 (2012) TV.
Replace the PhilipsPFL.conf with this one.

Is it possible to just use transcoding for the subtitles? It is no nessecary to transcode the audio and video stream.

No. When transcoding a video-file with a subtitle, the subtitle will be hardcoded into the new MPEG-2 video-stream with AC-3 sound.

Hey Ruud,

I am a happy 42PFL6007 owner and I am experiencing the same problems as you are. I read Leroy's links and tried the PFL. (Thanks Leroy!)

Sadly, with the new PFL, some of my videos still stutter. I tried to edit the PFL and managed to fix some of my movies, but I was still experiencing some problems. I did manage to pin down the symptoms and work out a solution. Wasn't that hard, once I knew what was happening:

Symptoms: transcoding buffer status reaches 0MB and then the stutter begins
Solution: turn down the quality.I have mine set to "keyint=25:vqmax=5:vqmin=2 /* Good quality for HD Wifi transcoding */" currently. I will try some others later. (I had it set to "keyint=5:vqscale=1:vqmin=2 /* Great quality */" earlier.

You can set this in the Transcoding Settings tab.

I am not too happy to turn down the quality and as I did get some encouraging results from my fumbling with the PFL, I will try to work out a better solution. For now, I'll just go for lower quality.

My specs:
AMD Phenom II x3 720@2.8Ghz
4 GB @ 32-bit Windows 7
TV: wifi

Hi all,

i'm a little confused with my new Philips TV 24pfl3507h/12 (2012).
I have another Philips TV (42pfl7676h/12 : 2011) who work fine with PS3 media server.
But PS3 media server don't recognized the new one.
If i forced the PhilipsPFL.conf or the PhilipsPFLxxx7 1.0.conf who seems to be the more accurate profiles my shares folders doesn't appear on the TV. I show nothing !
If i forced other profiles (Unknow renderer, Philips Aurea, Samsung, LG... etc.) i can show my shares folders and i can play some files but these profiles aren't optimise for my TV :

It play .avi files (xvid) but i found it don't accept dx50 in FourCC. Play fine if i only change the FourCC to xvid.
It don't play correctly .avi files with GMC + Warppoints (intermittent black screen)
it Play .mkv files but without Header Stripping or DTS.
it Play .ts files.

My older TV worked fine with all this files (except for DTS). Philips don't do a great job with this new model :-(

I don't know the user-agent for this TV. PS3MR say : Possible identifying HTTP headers: User-Agent: IPI/1.0 UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.50

Can someone help me to understand why nothing apear on my TV with the PhilipsPFL.conf ?
Or Make an accurate profile ?

Thanks.

hi Halback,

I have wrote a new config-file for the PFL35x7 / PFL38x7 TV's according the codec table provided with the manual.
Give it a try.

Thks,

all worked great except for some files :

.mkv with Header stripping : unsupported audio/video
.mp4 (avc/aac) : unsupported audio/video (the manual say it'll work but in fact no)

If i remux them in .mkv (without Header stripping) the files plays fine.
Is it possible to do a remux without re-encoding for this two types of files ?

Have you tried to play those files on the TV through USB?
Can you post the "Text" output from MediaInfo for the files that do not play?

Is it possible to do a remux without re-encoding for this two types of files ?

You can try the tsMuxer engine for this renderer, because this tv supports MPEG transport stream (.ts) with h.264 video.
This engine can be selected trough the #--TRANSCODE--# folder.

I noticed a typo with the PhilipsPFL3xx7 1.0.conf
This is fixed in version 1.1

my .avi divx files (without GMC) play well if i manualy change the FourCC to xvid. Can PS3MS do that for me on the fly ?

This mkv have a Format Profile High@L4.1, according the codex table the maximal supported Format Profile is High@L4.0
So i guess it is not the Header Stripping but the profile level is the problem.

Info from PS3.conf:
Code: Select all
# H264Level41Limited: Set to "true" if the media renderer supports only H264
# L4.1 at most.
H264Level41Limited = true

I guess for this renderer we need a option for L4.0 at most.

Halback wrote:the .mp4 play well through USB but not through DLNA but they are compatible with tsMuxer :-)

Because this file play through USB, i guess it can also play through DLNA, perhaps I used the wrong MIME type.
Try new version. (PhilipsPFL3xx7 1.2)

I don't know, I guess not. But the config-file give no native support for divx, so (with default PS3MS settings),
MEncoder should transcode these files without the use of the #--TRANSCODE--# folder.

I think it's really an Header Stripping pb because the same file remux with no compression (and other High@L4.1) files work well :

Work :

Because this file play through USB, i guess it can also play through DLNA, perhaps I used the wrong MIME type.
Try new version. (PhilipsPFL3xx7 1.2)

.mp4 give me always unsupported audio/video :-(
But i saw on the support forum that Philips is looking into this. Hope they can solve the pb.
