RMVB files stutter REALLY bad

Postby p00_p00 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 1:05 pm

Hi all

I seem to be able to stream all normal files (.avi, XVid, VidX, Mp4 etc etc) fine with the occasional stutter (like say every 10-20 mins and just pause for say 3 seconds and resume and its all good - no big issues there). Also the size of them are roughly your average 700 - 1400 mb size

But for RMVB files (200-250 mb), they stutter like crazy. Like every 3 seconds.

My computer is pretty old (like AMD 1.8ghz, 512 RAM etc) but as I said, other files dont seem to have a problem transcoding or playing. I am also using a wireless connection which offers above average signal connection (65-100%, m = 85)

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Hi All, I have exactly the same problem in transcoding the RMVB files. It seems that Mencoder does not like these files at all and I guess we'll have to wait for better support.

or somebody else has an answer how to solve this? With ffmpeg? Avisynth?

If not, I will convert these files into regular avi's, but I have 100s of these, so I prefer to have a better solution before starting

yep, install Real Alternative and AviSynth, and try the AviSynth engine

I got both but still no improvment :(

Any optimal settings I should try? Also not sure how AVIsynth works (it looks like scripting which I know nothing of...).

Also I found out that my router is a very old one - like 7 years old. I get good signals cause its close but do you think
1) Upgrading/Buyying a more modern computer will help?
2) New router?
3) Or simply using a wired connection to my PS3?

Cheers

Tried this as well, but no luck....even it tells me now "Data format is not supported" with Avisynth/mencoder combination. I couldn't wait to see the stuff I have in RMVB format, so I am converting everything to AVI. Thanks for your support though! Great programme!

THis is odd as I seem to play rmvb files fine. I haven't played a full length video YET. But I will report back if it stutters.
