I recently got a decent Intel Xeon Tower for work... but my Home Computer is my old work computer a dual 2.0 G5... which is a decent computer... and I would love to be able to use this with my PS3 at home! Thanx so much!!!

I wanted to make an account just so I could thank you for this thread. From following the instructions, I actually got it working on an 800 MHz G4 with 512 MBs of RAM. I imagine it would work terribly for HD files, but I only ever use PMS to stream lo-fi AVI files, because if I have an MKV, I'd rather just convert it to MP4 with Quicktime Pro and stick it on a flash drive, rather than relying on my network connection.

Anyway, thank you for this. I never would've figured this stuff out.

I have 10.5 PPC on a G4. I did EVERYTHING as listed, but PS3 Media server app won't open. It opens/closes. Can someone help me?

You may have left out a step or some kind of error, hard to guess, without any particular details such as logs etc.

Did you compile FAAC, FAAD and FFMPEG with shared support and lame as outlined in the very first post? Without meeting these prerequisites it just will not work, I tried making it so that one could just drag and drop the package but unfortunately was not able to do so since I did not have the time to change the install process properly, so those compile processes need to be ran manually. As you can see a little bit up the thread someone else was also able to make it work with a G4 by following these exact instructions...

I was using the latest version of PSM server instead of 1.10.5 - sorry about that. Thanks for the help. It's working using 1.10.5.

i stumbled on your post and and would really appreciate if you could post new links to your PPC build of PMS, i'm trying to revive my parents old G5 and they can't stream mkv to their ps3.
