Errors on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

Postby Mac_VLC_PS3 » Mon Aug 27, 2012 10:42 am

Hi happy.neko,

After successfully setting up PMS/PMSEncoder/Youtube-dl on my MAC (with help from chocolateboy) I decided to make similar arrangements on an old Laptop I had which has been collecting dust. The old Sony Vaio was on Windows XP and had 1GB RAM and an Intel Pentium M processor 1.73 GHz. I have now installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on it, and installed PMS server using the procedure you have explained at the start of the thread. I have also copied across the WEB.conf from the working PMS on my MAC. Do i need to install PMSEncoder and Youtube-dl on this version?

Please check my log files attached and advise what I might be missing.

P.S. This is my first time using Ubuntu. I have always been a Windows (light) user so please attempt to keep it simple for me.

Many thanks for the great work you guys have been doing.

EDIT: Installed PMSEncoder/Youtube-dl and issue partially fixed. Get Java errors due to "Could not allocate space". Quite possibly my old machine so i disabled a few things which I was not using on PMS settings and it works fine now!

Hello,

Running an headless Ubuntu 10.04.4, I have just remove old version from Paissad and install ps3mediaserver from ppa neko repository.

I have this :
/etc/default/ps3mediaserver :
Code: Select all
PS3MS_START="1"  # change to "1" to enable ps3mediaserver autostart
PS3MS_USER="nicolas2"
PS3MS_PROFILE="/home/nicolas2/.config/ps3mediaserver"
# memory limit for JVM (-Xmx option)
PS3MS_MEM="768M"

# Additional options that are passed to the Daemon.
DAEMON_OPTS="console"

and this
/home/nicolas2/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS.conf :
Code: Select all
folders = /home/nfs
hostname =
port = 55231 # opened in UFW
language = fre
thumbnails = true
thumbnail_seek_pos = 60
use_mplayer_for_video_thumbs = true
nbcores = 2

every else by default in this file at this time.

I try to lauch PMS, nothing run and no log avaible !!!

In my /var/log/boot.log i find this :
Code: Select all
* Starting NFS kernel daemon       ^[[80G
^[[74G[ OK ]
Starting PS3 Media Server : ps3mediaserver
 * Starting S.M.A.R.T. daemon smartd       ^[[80G
^[[74G[ OK ]

So If I understand nothing run...

and I have this about JAVA :
Code: Select all
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_24"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11.4) (6b24-1.11.4-1ubuntu0.10.04.1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode)

What's the matter ? Any idea ?

Thank a lot.

How are you trying to start ps3mediaserver?

Can you run the software manually, IE not thru the upstart job?

@arrrghhh
don't works :
sudo start ps3mediaserver
sudo service ps3mediaserver start

when I post, I only try thoses way

Now I just try this : sudo /usr/bin/ ./ps3mediaserver
so the return is :

Code: Select all
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: net/pms/PMS
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.pms.PMS
   at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:217)
   at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
   at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:205)
   at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:321)
   at sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:294)
   at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:266)
Could not find the main class: net.pms.PMS. Program will exit.

Looks like a java error.

Can't you just run ps3mediaserver by hand...?

So try
Code: Select all
ps3mediaserver
- nothing more, nothing less.

Also, based on this, it appears you need Sun's Java... OpenJDK will not work (from what I can tell). At least that's what I'm using for 12.04.

so :

I will see that (I run under 10.04.4, maybe time to upgrade... :?:

EDIT

Hm, I have install sun-java6-jre

retry to launch ps3mediaserver

so :
@serveur:~$ ps3mediaserver
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: net/pms/PMS
Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: net.pms.PMS
at java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202)

at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:248)
Could not find the main class: net.pms.PMS. Program will exit.

:evil:

EDIT 2 :

That's rock's !!!
I have remove all java package and psm also, then re install sun-java6-jre, and psm after : it's OK psm run.
Thank for helping.

BUT psm don't want to use my /home/.config/psmediaserver/PMS.conf file, strange.
And no sound whis MKV files, just a continuous sound.

Continuing :

I found why my config file was not read.

When PMS autostart at server boot, it read /root/.config/psmediaserver/PMS.conf and not /home/USER/.config/psmediaserver/PMS.conf.

Maybe need to talk about this in the front page of this topic ?

Trying to solve sound PB on MKV.

EDIT

Not only a sound PB, but some MKV don't run (some freeze, others have sound pb).

I think that's come from mplayer's version, but I use ppa motumedia flavour 2.1.0.svn34707-1.

I just installed Open Media Vault so i can have a NAS server which is based on Debian (Squeeze).

What package should I install?

This one?
https://launchpad.net/~happy-neko/+arch ... 1_i386.deb

will there be a 1.7 version as that was recently released.

Thanks

See this section:

How to run PS3 Media Server in headless mode as service / daemon (easy guide)

From the first post. It goes thru how to direct which config file PMS uses. Also, this package should include all you need - so no need for any special versions of mplayer/mencoder. Just use what this package provides.

Ubuntu 12.04 is on 1.6 right now as well. Patience while new packages are built.
