Ubuntu 12.04 server - won't transcode

Postby Lovett1991 » Tue Aug 28, 2012 12:14 am

Hi guys,

I followed this guide http://irrationale.com/2010/06/30/ps3-media-server-on-ubuntu-10-04/ as I am running Ubuntu server 12.04 in hyper-V, therefore GUI is no option to me!

I only really stream .avi's and .mkv's. After this guide all my files show;

The .avi's play fine, on my samsung tv/xbox/ps3
My samsung TV which can play .mkv fine previously, can also read fine from pms in this setup.

My problem is that my xbox/ps3 cannot play the .mkv's... The ps3 even displays correct thumbnails for the .mkv files but when I attempt to play the media it just says "data corrupt".

I can only assume this is a transcoding error, but can anyone help me out?

I have pms stored in /opt/pms
I have tried moving the /linux foled to the home directory (although I have pms running as a service!)
I have also made the folders executable (chmod 775)

Any help is apreciated! Sorry If I'm being silly!

Cheers,

Alex

Thanks I wasn't sure what to post...

I checked the logs and this is what I get;

ERROR 2012-08-27 20:36:45.542 [tsMuxeR-12] Fatal error in process initialization:
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "tsMuxeR": java.io.IOException: error=2, No such file or directory
at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(ProcessBuilder.java:475) ~[na:1.6.0_24]
at net.pms.io.ProcessWrapperImpl.run(ProcessWrapperImpl.java:132) ~[pms.jar:na]
Caused by: java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: error=2, No such file or directory

at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(ProcessBuilder.java:468) ~[na:1.6.0_24]
... 1 common frames omitted

If I cd to /opt/pms/linux and type "tsMuxeR" I get;
tsMuxeR: command not found

Not sure if there's any other info I can provide?
I read somewhere you can config pms to not use tsMuxeR?

*edit
If if type "/opt/pms/linux/tsMuxeR" it appears to work?;

SmartLabs tsMuxeR. Version 1.10.6 http://www.smlabs.net
Usage:
For start muxing: tsMuxeR <meta file name> <out file/dir name>
For detect stream params: tsMuxeR <media file name>
For more information about meta file see readme.txt

So full path works but running from within directory doesn't?

Uninstall whatever you've installed and install the happy.neko PPA: "How to run PS3 Media Server in headless mode as service / daemon (easy guide)". If you don't have a desktop on which to create an initial PMS.conf, create a new file and add any customizations. All of the options are documented in the sample PMS.conf bundled with PMS (/etc/skel/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS.conf in the PPA). In most cases, all you need to set is folders:

Code: Select all
folders = /media/foo,/media/bar

ok I uninstalled everything, and then installed using the happy.neko PPA.

I created a config file @ ~/.config/PMS.config
I created the same file @ ~/.config/ps3mediaserver/PMS.conf
(wasn't sure which directory it looks for)

When I just put in the folder location in the config file (folders = /media/foo)
I have exactly the same error as before form my ps3 (data corrupt) all .avi's are fine, my samsung tv does .avi & .mvk fine as before

However when I change my config file to the following;

thumbnails = true
thumbnail_seek_pos = 300
mencoder_ass = true
folders = /media/Storage/Media/Videos
hide_videosettings = true
hide_enginenames = true
audiochannels = 2
uuid = 7531cc87-8457-47df-a958-0f0af9f66ef1

(this is what I got from the guide I posted previously) My ps3 returns;

This content cannot be played.
(800288E1)

I'm not sure where the debug folder is with this install so I shall go on a hunt now.

*edit I forgot to mention I updated my ps3 firmware which apparently this error is the same as the data corrupt error previously!
The debug file @ /var/log/ps3mediaserver/alex//debug.log doesn't give anything about anything streaming just states where all files are located.
