Raven, for the 1.7 snapshot to work I had to uninstall all the java I had and install the jdk 7u5. I tried to have 2 or more javas (64 and 32 bit) but I havent found a way yet (just so you know). Anyway, in order to use the snapshot you need that java version.

Regards.

I reinstall java and I am able to use the snapshot, thanks Obituario ;)

So, I have attached a zip file :
  • debug.log PMS1.40 with "pms-1.70.0-SNAPSHOT-jar-with-dependencies.jar" when PMS plays sample MKV file with tagged srt file  Subtitle correctly displayed
  • debug.log PMS1.60 with "pms-1.70.0-SNAPSHOT-jar-with-dependencies.jar" when PMS plays sample MKV file with tagged srt file  Subtitle incorrectly displayed (as described in first post)

I hope it cans help to understand what it is going wrong.

Hello,

Did the solution of this problem have been found?

Because I have the same : "POS" tag from srt are not understood by PMS version 1.50 or above...

Thanks for any information.

I am surprised by the fact that this problem has not been fixed yet.

Because I think lots of people are using some tagged SRT files (for watching TV shows for example). ;)
And I would be surprised that Raven and I were the only two guys dealing with this problem...

It's a shame to be restricted to 1.4x version of PS3 Media Server, to be able to have correctly displayed subtitles. :|

What CP (CodeePage) D:\Vu\Part-001.srt is using? If it is UTF-8 (Unicode), maybe it may be problem.
I remember when subs were UTF-8 and PMS used -CP1252 parameter (used when subs are ANSI), position was ignored but when I converted subs to CP1250, position was accepted.
UTF-8 subs were accepted when MEncoder used -utf8 parameter instead of CP one.
Your log shows CP1252 param is used by MEncoder so subs should be ANSI and not UTF-8 what can lead to POS tag ignored.
I never used POS tag in SRT file but I spotted this behavior on 3D subs (ASS/SSA sub format) so it can be same problem.
You can test it also with forcing UTF-8 in PMS setting if it changes behavior in any way.

I just tried several combinations of srt format / Mencoder codepage option, and the POS tag was still ignored everytime :

SRT format / Mencoder Codepage
ANSI / (blank = auto)
ANSI / cp1250
ANSI / cp1252
UTF8 / cp1250
UTF8 / cp1252

I also tried once by checking the "FriBiDi mode" option, but that did not change anything.

ExSport, did I understand wrong your information, and performed wrong tests ?
Or is the problem more complicated than that ?

(tests performed with PMS v 1.72)

As I said, I spotted this behavior with SSA/ASS subtitles which uses COLOR and POS tags too. Not with SRT subs (I don't have any with POS)
So it seems it is not same problem. But if it worked, weird it doesn't work now.
Also have to say I am on WIN. I know that MAC version removed FONTCONFIG due to some problems so if you are on MAC, it may be the culprit.

I am on Win 7 64 bits.

As Raven said, the problem is probably related to Mencoder.
