1.60.0 letting Mountain Lion sleep

My machine is going to sleep during playback. With the previous OS (10.7.4), the "Prevent OS from sleeping while streaming" checkbox worked fine, but now under Mountain Lion my machine is sleeping regardless of that setting.

Since I'm using mountain lion I'm having this problem, too.

Good workaround! But this doesn't solve the issue. The "Prevent OS from sleeping while streaming" option should prevent your mac from going to sleep while its streams a movie regardless of your energy saving options in the settings pane.

caffeinate – prevent the system from sleeping on behalf of a utility

This allows you to either directly prevent your Mac from falling asleep for a specific period of time (e.g. an hour):

caffeinate -u -t 3600

or allows a command to run for a prolonged period without the automatic (and, since 10.8, rather aggressive) sleep function kicking in

caffeinate -s any-long-running-command -with arguments

It doesn’t have anything to do with Java(TM) though…

I think the problem is the aggressive sleep function. Maybe the ps3ms developers have to use caffeinate?

Briefly looking at the code (admittedly I'm not a dev), the only place the sleeping setting gets called is under winutils.java, which appears to be Windows specific (utilizes kernel32, which AFAIK is only in Windows). I'm guessing that this option never worked on Mac (or Linux), and that the default power management settings (and implementations) between Mountain Lion and the other OSX's are different. But a dev should confirm.

It definitely worked for me in Lion last week.

I agree with you but i'm thinking (like maybe you said in the previous post) that the new operating system is too invasive about the sleep mode....i had a similar problem in these days with emule.....when the imac went in sleep mode emule was "firewalled"....when i "woke up" the iMac instead emule returned in connection.....setting the energy preferences like i said in my post i solved both the problem at the same time....

You are right, meskibob. Sleep prevention is windows only feature.
For proper OSes we need other solution. Like moving mouse pointer once in 5 minutes or something.

I can confirm that the sleep prevention worked with previous versions of mac os.

Yesterday I found a good workaround.

The command

caffeinate -i open -W -a "PS3 Media Server.app"

starts the PS3 Media Server app and prevents the mac from going to sleep while the app is open.
