RAM Usage

Hello,

I'm using PS3mediaserver for a few days, and it use more and more RAM.



Here you can see it use nearly 1Go, with nothing appening.
Is this normal ?
At start the program takes 70Mo, it seem it doesn't release memory after finish to transcode/stream a file ?

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and java 1.7.0-03.
Hardware is Dual Core 1.8GHz + 2Go RAM.

Yes, this is normal behavior for any Java program (not just PMS).
Java keeps the memory registered, but no fear: it will free the memory immediately if the system needs it.

When you start seeing OutOfMemory errors in the logs, that is when you should start to worry because then PMS is really using a lot of memory.

Last time my compouter freezed, I had to reboot it via power button, so I think the "it will free the memory immediately if the system needs it" part is wrong with me.
Is there any way to set a java RAM limit ?

If you're on a system with constrained RAM, you should adjust the heap size and transcode buffer values appropriately (the 768MB default heap size may be a bit much for 2GB depending on what else you're running) - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3507&start=30#p38969
