The problem is that the mencoder shipped with 1.10.51 and the current one are a couple of thousand revisions apart, and therefore hardly comparable.
Thanks for trying to narrow down the problem!

As I wrote before:

When you open the debug.log, you will find the long command line that PMS is using to run MEncoder.
If we can manage to get that command line to generate a correct output file, we've solved the problem.

See the FAQ question: Where are the PMS config, log, database files etc. located?

In the debug.log you will find lines that look something like:

Code: Select all
Starting "C:\Program Files (x86)\PS3 Media Server\win32\mencoder.exe" -ss 0 -quiet - -quiet -quiet -oac lavc -of mpeg -quiet -quiet -mpegopts format=mpeg2:muxrate=500000:vbuf_size=1194:abuf_size=64 -ovc lavc -channels 2 -lavdopts debug=0:threads=2 -lavcopts autoaspect=1:vcodec=mpeg2video:acodec=ac3:abitrate=448:threads=2:keyint=5:vqscale=1:vqmin=2:vrc_maxrate=11000:vrc_buf_size=1835 -quiet -quiet -subdelay 20000 -quiet -quiet -ofps 25 -quiet -quiet -lavdopts fast -mc 0 -noskip -af lavcresample=48000 -srate 48000 -cache 8192 -o \\.\pipe\mencoder1335658736926

This is the exact command line that PMS uses to transcode your file. With a few tweaks you can run this command line yourself:
  • Remove all "-quiet" flags
  • Remove the "-really-quiet" flag
  • Change "-o \\.\pipe\mencoder1335658736926" to "-o test.mpg"

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
It works fine with avi but not with mp4... I wonder why there are so many mp4 files nowadays (apple :@)

There still hasn't been a solution found yet. Could this be more of a priority?
