Subtitles question

I don't know a whole lot about subtitles since I don't often use them, but I had a quick question. I have subtitles disabled on my PS3MS settings because they distract me from the movie. I'm generally watching movies in English anyways, so there's no need for them. However, having the subtitles completely disabled seems to also remove any subtitles that are supposed to be part of the film. For instance, in X-Men First Class when Magneto is at the bank speaking French, or at the bar speaking Spanish. These aren't a separate subtitle track, but part of the film. Is there anyways to make only these subtitles show up, and not force the movie to have subtitles throughout? Thank you.
