Successfully updated my system to 12.04 and found that they dropped ia32-libs in favor of multiarch libs. That why dpkg installs almost all i386 libs.
I updated my Precise package to include only libs that I think tsmuxer requires.

so, tsmuxer requires ia32libs, and it cannot call the 64 bit versions of the same libs? (I went through everything, and that one package seems to be the only thing that required any :i386 package...) since they went in favor of multiarch libs, is there not a way to tell tsmuxer to use the ones that are there? every single one of the :i386 libs on my system already had a matching base pkg...

Seannon

I have identified required libs and created metapackage for deps installation. Now ps3mediaserver will install only ~4 i386 libraries on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit. Please update.

If system tray icon is missing
From version 11.04 upwards Ubuntu has known bug (Canonical insists its a feature) when Unity desktop hides system tray icons for some applications. To enable icons for all applications open Terminal and enter this command:

Code: Select all
gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']"

then logout from system and login again. Now you should see PS3 Media Server tray icon.

I can confirm that none of this works under LMDE 12 (Linux Mint Debian Edition).

The icon is not displaying in the system tray for me using gnome classic in 12.04.

Since I've checked "Start minimized" there's no way for me to see the GUI.

Any suggestions?

Hello there.

I partitioned my disk some years ago and reinstalled [L|X]ubuntu from scratch twice after that, always maintaing /home intact. However, the current user is different from before.

Code: Select all
u@c:~$ ls -1 /home
l
lost+found
sharer
u
y

I guess somehow the installation script supposed that the first entry in that listing is the current user, but in this case it is not. The only active user in my current system is "u".

Don't know where I should report this, since it seems to be an .deb issue, not from source.

Right now I'm writing patch for PS3MS to use /etc/skel configs by default. So this will be fixed in next version.

There are more than that, i'm only running ps3 media server and sabnzb on this box and no one is currently streaming from ps3 media server (its running as root as im running it headless as a service as per your guide in the opening post), Is there any way to stop all of these threads from being spawned but never seemingly closed (memory usage just seems to be creeping up daily), is it safe to killall these?

New version
ps3mediaserver (1.51.0+git+mencoder34587-3precise5) precise; urgency=low

* Override GSettings schemas only if glib-compile-schemas exists

ps3mediaserver (1.51.0+git+mencoder34587-3precise4) precise; urgency=low

* Load system-wide defaults from /etc/skel if user's profile not found (https://github.com/ps3mediaserver/ps3me ... er/pull/47)
* Do not copy/remove config files with postinst and postrm scripts to user's home directory
* Enable Unity systray icons for all applications including PS3 Media Server after installation

If after installation system tray icon is missing restart your PC.

I'm not a fan of running ps3ms under root with (old) daemon script. Try start it normally with /usr/bin/ps3mediaserver.

New version with init.d script by carlettod.

Code: Select all
ps3mediaserver (1.51.0+git+mencoder34587-3precise6) precise; urgency=low

  * New init.d script (thanks, carlettod! http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14187)

How to run PS3 Media Server in headless mode as service / daemon (easy guide)
1. Configure PS3 Media Service in GUI mode as normal user, save and quit.
2. Edit /etc/default/ps3mediaserver
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/default/ps3mediaserver

  • Change PMS_START to "yes"
  • Change PMS_USER to your login name
  • Change PMS_PROFILE to "/home/YOUR_LOGIN/.config/ps3mediaserver"
3. Start server
Code: Select all
sudo /etc/init.d/ps3mediaserver start

Now PS3 Media Server will autorun during system startup. Remember to stop it with
Code: Select all
sudo /etc/init.d/ps3mediaserver stop
if you want to start it in GUI mode later to prevent network conflicts.

This is the easiest way to run PS3 Media Server on headless server:
Configure PS3 Media Server locally in GUI mode then copy ~/.config/ps3mediaserver folder to server to /home folder of appropriate user. Then edit /etc/default/ps3mediaserver (see above) and start server.
