Ubuntu VS W7-64

Postby compaddict » Thu Apr 26, 2012 2:59 pm

I have bee using PS3MS with Ubuntu and am considering going back to W7. Does PS3MS work just as good in Windows? Better?

TIA,

Vince

Kind of a broad question that most can't answer, unless they have actually used both. PMS works brilliant for me with Windows 7. Can't speak on Ubuntu or any Linux distro.

PMS itself is written in Java, which ensures us with cross-platform compatibility.
The devs do their best to have PMS in full working order on all systems.
Some features are only available for the Windows build, because they depend on Windows-only tools.

So the Windows experience should be roughly the same as on Linux, and you would get some extra features that the Linux build doesn't have.

I'm on a fresh load of W7-64 and PS3MS works much better now. It serves faster and much less lag.

I have to say that codec support is way better on windows.
Ive tried both, optimizing PMS on ubuntu takes a lot more effort than in windows.

With one exception that is no longer supported, PMS doesn't use third-party codecs.
