srt2ass3D

Postby r3pek » Fri Apr 20, 2012 11:14 am

Hi,

I made this simple program that converts an .srt subtitle file to an .ass subtitle file (that is read by MenCoder/PMS) to be viewed with 3D movies.
I have compiled versions for Linux x86_64 and Windows. Source code is also available, so if anyone wants to take a look, be my guest :)

Great try!
In past I tested some SW which did 3D ASS/SSA subs but unfortunatelly MEncoder didn't support it so it is news for me that it has already support for it 8-)
Until now we were forced to use 3DSubtitler with VobSub(.sub/.idx) format.
If 3D ASS/SSA subs are supported then I suppose also positionable subtitles will also work 8-) :

Yes, that works. It's just a matter of adjusting the subtitles coordinates (as it is done for 3D).

I made it because I'm a linux user, and as a linux user, I didn't find any easy way to convert an srt file to vob/sub without any windows program. So I made this one, simple, and cross-platform. :)

Hello
I tested your utility and it doesn't work for me.
  • Diactric is corrupted but in text editor it seems OK but PS3 and also MPC-HC player on Win shows them corrupted
  • Using latest Windows SB31 MEncoder build and subtitles are rendered on two lines insted on left and right(MEncoder doesn't support it or bad PMS setting?)
Anyway thanks for this utility...maybe in future it can be used on the fly directly by PMS 8-)

Didn't have the chance to test it on PMS yet, but on my PC it works great.
Could you tell me the command line parameters you used and the movie file in question? SBS/TB/Full/Half?

Code: Select all
srt2ass3D_win.exe -i test.srt -o 3d.ass -3 SBS -d [-3 to 3]->[nothing works]

Tried to play with settings in PMS and no way.
Tried to play it in Media Player Home Cinema (WIN) and diactrics is corrupted -> same as on PS3
On PC subs are rendered correctly on one line, on the left and right. But on PS3 subs are rendered in centre under each other in two lines.
It seems MEncoder doesn't support positioning of ass subs or I am using incorrect PMS subtitle settings? Using WIN SB31 MEncoder build.
Thx

Mine works OK.
BTW, I can't open any of your zip files. Mind posting you ass file on pastebin or something?

It works here:

1. As I wrote, it is not zip so please rename it as stated (text file can't be uploaded here) ;)
2. I asked you what settings are you using in PMS(for subs), what version of MEncoder, what OS
3. Maybe my source file was in different CodePage so output is corrupt...I tested on PC in MPC-HC with same behavior(corrupted diactrics)
I see two problems, one is MEncoder/PMS settings itself because subs are correctly rendered on PC and second one is diactrics which is wrong on PS3 and also on PC.
Will try another source of sub files (ANSI, UTF-8, ...)

Works great here :)
Just changed the encoding to UTF8. Also, be sure to enable ass/ssa subtitles on PMS.

ASS/SSA was enabled, fontconfig on/off and embeded style on/off and MEncoder rendered it in wrong way(Win SubJunk SB71)
Will test it again also with another codepage set for subtitle files. :?
