File list cap at 30 items when streaming to 8player (iOS)

Postby tutzelki » Wed Apr 11, 2012 1:13 pm

Hi,
I am using PMS 1.52.0 to stream some media over WiFi to my iPad. On the iPad i have the current 8player installed it is recognised as "XBMC" so that's the config I am using. Furthermore the media collection is not switched on right now.
I have switched off transcoding for the all the files in question. Streaming works perfectly this way, it shows avi, mp3 and jpg with no problems. So far so good no to my problem:
My picture collection is rather extensive so there are some time 100+ files in a folder. Also there are a lot of folders. When I now browse the server it only shows the first 30 entries. Sometimes if get lucky if I select a picture the count will go up 30 or 60 counts but never show all the entries.
When I try to browse it with my "Philipps Aurea" device it shows all entries as all entries are shown if i use fuppes, which is another media server. The problem therefore seems to be in the communication between 8player and PMS. The log files show errors but it seems they are codec specific and seem to have nothingthing to do with browsing:

I don't think this is enough information for you to help me but I would be glad to post more if you could tell me where I could find it.

Thank you for your feedback!
I have committed a fix for the problem, the next version of PMS should work better for you.

For now, you can avoid the problem by disabling the media database.

I am seeing this problem when streaming to my Acer A500 andriod tablet. Streaming seems to work fine on my PS3. Using 1.52.1

Looks like these long codec names show up when ffmpeg is being used rather then mediainfo to read the files. You can Try setting MediaInfo=true in the used renderer configuration and see if it is working.
If you always wanted to have your most recent videos at the top of the folder in the ps3 or wished you could group all videos with the same genre in one folder, have a look at pms-mlx

I have the full version of 8player (2.6.1) on my first generation iPad, and I'm running PMS 1.52.1 on an iMac. I had the same problem mentioned in passing above that 8player was recognized as XBMC until I removed the XBMC configuration (this was happening even when I had a config that seemed to me should match the User Agent for 8player better than the one in the XBMC config--not sure what's going on there). Using the plain XBMC config gave very poor performance across the board although it did more or less work, it was a pain to use.

I modified the basic PS3 config based on another attempt someone made for 8player in another thread here, and removed the XBMC one. It may be I'm just kludging it with my StreamExtensions setting, based on what I believe 8player should be able to support without transcoding. Anyway, I'm posting it here in hopes it helps out someone else who might be looking for the same thing.

This works fairly well for me. I mostly use it for video and pictures, and I don't use a lot of different formats, but most of it seems to play fine, and I don't see any 30 item limit (just checked one photo folder with 92 items, working fine), maybe because of that fix committed earlier.
