ISO a/v sync issue

Postby gauched » Sat Feb 25, 2012 10:13 pm

Hi,

I'm running 1.50.1 on a headless Ubuntu server.

Playing my ISO DVD rips is currently resulting in wildly out of sync a/v (I'm talking around 5 to 10 seconds out). I had a search and found that this general issue has been reported in the past, but all reports were marked as fixed, so I suppose mine may be different somehow.

Can anyone tell me whether this is an ongoing, known issue? If not, what would be the next step to getting this fixed?

Thanks

Here is detailed information about my setup. Can anyone help?

PMS 1.50.1
Ubuntu Server 11.10
Dual core Intel i3-2100T CPU @ 2.50GHz
4GB RAM
Streaming to PS3 with 4.11 firmware
Connectivity: server <- gigabit ethernet -> D-LINK DIR-655 router <- gigabit ethernet -> TP-Link TL-SG1005D switch <- gigabit ethernet -> PS3
Using MEncoder to play DVD ISOs

Problem statement: audio and video are grossly out of sync (sound is well ahead of video, by approximately 30 or 40 seconds)

MediaInfo output:

I'd like to include my debug.log but I'm told it's too large to place inline, and the Upload attachment function fails every time with "The xxx extension is not allowed.", no matter what extension I choose :S Here's a pastebin of it: http://pastebin.com/Gmdh4c9v

I don't see those mencoder/mplayer errors that you have. What version of mplayer/mencoder are you using? I would consider compiling new version with the script (I believe in contrib) to generate your own versions. Also read the thread on statically linked mencoder/mplayer in linux support section.
opensuse 12.1, latest PMS build, mplayer/mencoder with static libraries, movieinfo, pmsencoder, edl plugin, PS3, XBOX, Samsung ES7000

slooff,

Thanks for the reply. Here's what I get:

Code: Select all
~$ mencoder
mencoder: Symbol `ff_codec_bmp_tags' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking
MEncoder SVN-r33713-4.6.1 (C) 2000-2011 MPlayer Team
No file given

That error looks ominous.

Also weird, I just tried apt-get upgrade and I get this:

Code: Select all
The following packages have been kept back:
  mencoder mplayer
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.

WTF?

OK, did a dist-upgrade and now I get:

Code: Select all
~$ mencoder
MEncoder SVN-r33713-4.6.1 (C) 2000-2011 MPlayer Team
No file given

Exiting... (error parsing command line)

Weird that the version number didn't change. Just tried the DVD ISO again and the problem persists :(

Ok, looks better ;) what does your debug look like and does this happen with all your ISOs?

Yes, all my ISOs are exhibiting this problem. Here's an updated log: http://pastebin.com/39TS2Bzz

Looks ominous, but I'm not sure what to make of this. Any ideas?

Thanks
