Also do you have Alternate AV Synch on?

Not for all mkv files. And A/V Sync I have always unticked.
It is because newer versions skips many frames so audio/video gets out of sync/jerky.
Older buids[-25] are not affected like new ones [26-] (SubJunk said it seems root cause is new FFMpeg):

Maybe you are playing a non-interleaved stream/file or the codec failed?
For AVI files, try to force non-interleaved mode with the -ni option.

Yeah ExSport and I tested it and found that the newer FFmpeg is responsible, which makes it hard to fix

Another tests and findings 8-)
If Audio is not processed (-nosound), also builds 26-28 will create non-choppy video so my AC3 tracks are not friendly with newer SB builds(but up to SB25 it was OK)
So how to fix it?
  • Using "-mc 0" or "-mc 0 -noskip" parameter when SB26 and newer are used - second params are in fact "Alternate A/V sync checked in GUI"
  • Using SB MEncoder builds older than SB26 with Alternate A/V sync ON or OFF
Unfortunatelly 1st option is not usable because when -mc 0 -noskip is used (Alt. A/V Sync ticked), MEncoder ignores detected audio delay.
So for now using SB25 and A/V sync disabled is only solution for best results.
Almost all my movies are with quite big audio delay (500ms and more) so Alternate A/V sync have to be disabled for me :(
Also as I fixed tsMuxer engine I mentioned it to disable it for all 8-) viewtopic.php?f=11&t=11284&p=62765#p62765

If you want to test it, here are two examples (use 1st audio track (AC3)):
http://www.filefactory.com/file/377kr8k ... elay1s_mkv (this one has 1sec wrong delay for "testing" reasons)
http://www.filefactory.com/file/c463f90 ... ipping_mkv
  • With SB25 and older, file is played correctly
  • With SB26 and newer, file is out of sync and choppy (due to FFMPEG bug?)
  • If you will enable "Alternate A/V Sync" you can see that first file will be played correctly also when it has 1 second shifted audio => "wrong" behavior of MEncoder (delay is ignored)
  • If you will enable "Alternate A/V Sync" with SB older than SB26 you will see that first sample will be out of sync because delay is detected and used => correct MEncoder behavior
EDIT:
I have to say I never used audio transcoding, always I used "Remux AC3" so can't say if same behavior is when AC3 audio is transcoded 8-)

Yes, but it has nothing to do with Java. When using MEncoder alone with same parameters exported from debug.log, final file is exactly same as presented on PS3/TV.

ExSport, if you are using ac3 remux it is almost miracle that it works for you on particular build or file, but rest assured (-oac copy) was and always will be buggy. From my point of view this options should be removed from PS3MS to avoid endless issues. Use lpcm or ac3 transcoding and be happy :)

Well that doesn't mean it is the only issue with latest mencoder.

No because MPlayer depends on FFmpeg and won't compile without the latest one.

I have tried SB68 and also the official release.
My comments:
1. regarding to av sync , I saw you already discussed it, duno why, with some mkv files
with SB67 it was better. I m using av sync alternate method , did'nt try without it.
2. Panasonic.conf, we already discussed it, but the problem exist also in the official release,
(MEncoder with regular Xvid avi files without option to play without MEncoder)

I don't agree. I am using AC3 remux last two years and almost never I had problems. Why to transcode original audio when it is not needed and risk possibility of reordered channels or lower quality or muted audio when audio level is low and other bugs when audio is transcoded?
No I don't agree with you that it is buggy. It was never buggy and on Windows it always worked.
If you are not able to make it work, it doesn't mean that it doesn't work for others ;)
Ok, in past I used special params to make it work better because my files have big delays so I had to use instead of -mc 0 -noskip(when alt. A/V sync is ticked) only -mc 0.005 to detect and fix delays 8-)
DON'T REMOVE THIS FEATURE!!!!! Sorry for capitals 8-)
