Windows 7 problems

Postby mc1502 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 2:41 am

Are there problems trying to run PMS on windows 7 while streaming to a PS3? I ask because, in looking through all of the posts it appears that there are a rather large number of windows 7 users posting issues. i am running a 2.92 Ghz Duo, 8 meg machine running on windows 7 over a wired 100 meg network, and have not been able to make PMS play any MKV files. On the 1.51 build the video would start, play maybe 20 seconds, then proceed to randomly jump from one point in the movie to onther. On the 1.50 build it would play the first 20 seconds or so then simply pause the payback by itself, but could not be started again. All other video formats have played flawlessly on both builds. Anyone else experience this sort of thing with MKV files.

PMS seems to have so much potential, It's easy to use for the formats that have worked. Everyone seems to have great luck with it. I feel like there is just some setting that is keeping me from taking full advantage of the software. It's very frustrating.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, when I try to save the altered text it tells me that I am not authorized to do so, and when I try to save it under administrator status it tells me that the javaw file can't be found. That part was odd because I can see javaw in my file structure. I'm at a loss.

Open Notepad with Run as Administrator:
Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right-click on Notepad and select "Run as administrator"

Using File -> Open in Notepad, find the PMS.bat file, modify appropriately, and then save.

Please search the Google if you need additional help navigating through/around UAC in Windows.

First off I want to thank the forum for the help in trying to figure out my problem. I am completly new to this and any help I can get is greatly appreciated.

OK, I used the above directions and was able to get it to save my Java memory heap settings, but it would only let me go as high as 1200 (any higher than that and it would give me the virtual machine error upon running the batch file). I found that odd as I have 8 gig of ram. Anyway, after starting the PMS from the batch file my videos still skipped forward. And all of the vodeos that gave me problems before skipped ahead at exactly the same place. I looked at the error log, expecting to find some sort of error relating to memory, but did not find one. The only thing that looked funny in the log was a line that stated that a fatal error had occured.

Could there be any other settings or system conflicts that would make this happen? Could it be that I need more Java heap but my system can't give any more? Could it be that I am running a 64 bit system and maybe need to run a differnt version of Java (I assume the default Java version that is prompted for downloaded with the PMS software is the 32 bit version)?

I uninstalled PMS and Java then reinstalled PMS just for giggles. I didn't install the version of Java the PMS install directs you to. I downloaded Java 7 64 bit and installed it. It will now let me adjust the Java heap size to anything I like (at least as high as I have tried). I saved it at 4000 and then ran PMS from the batch file. It made absolutely no differnce. what the heck could be causing this problem? It sure doesn't appear to be a Java memoy issue. i have read every single thread on this board that even remotely sounds like my problem, and have tried every remedy that posters have posted, and nothing has made one single bit of difference. Are there some files that just won't run on the PMS/PS3? I so want this to work. I don't know where to go from here.

Does anyone have an idea what would be causing my problems based on the de-bug file. I see the error in the file but have no idea what would be causing it.

machine running on windows 7 over a wired 100 meg network

DEBUG.LOG shows that your connection is 30Mbit so it doesn't seems you are using 100Mbit CABLE connection ;)
About your problem:
Code: Select all
DEBUG 2012-03-26 22:36:59.445 [Thread-48] [mpeg4 @ 010aa900]marker does not match f_code

Your file seems to be corrupt or not fully downloaded.
MEncoder shows lot of errors so your problem is your problematic file 8-)
