Kubuntu / Ubuntu 11.10 - PS3 Media Server says No Renderers

Postby mixphonics » Sat Mar 17, 2012 7:34 am

Hello Fellow Kubuntu / Ubuntu Users,

I am hoping someone out there can help me with setting up the PS3 Media Server on my linux machine. I am running Kubuntu 11.10 and have tried everything I can think of to get the PS3 Media server to work. Every time it gives me the error message No Renderers found.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Here is my trace log which seems to be okay to me:

What renderer are you trying to connect? PS3?

Have you eliminated any networking issues?

Have you tried the official 1.50.1 release? I have had nothing but problems with the snapshots.

@loz - Yes, I am trying to connect to the PS3.

As far as networking issues, I have a Netgear router that the PS3 connects to wirelessly without any issue IP address automatically assigned as well as my laptop which is running kubuntu. They both have internet access so I am assuming that they are able to talk to each other. I can ping the PS3 when it is connected to the network.

@Hewitson - Yes, I have also tried the 1.50.1 release and it had the same problem.

Loz, what kind of network issues would be preventing access? I am not running any firewall with kubuntu, I eliminated firestarter at bootup.

I guess if you can ping the PS3 from the machine running PS3 Media Server you should be OK.

Do you have the latest PS3 updates?

I eliminated firestarter at bootup

Double check that it's not running.

Hello and thank you for the reply. I looked at your link and did not see instructions on how to double check that firestarter is not running. Is there a quick way to check that?

I looked at the system log and could not identify anything in particular but at bootup I do not see firestarter trying to start anymore. It used to fail because it was trying to load and it is a GUI front end application and would fail trying to start before the GUI loaded. I removed it from startup by renaming the file and replacing the "S" in front of the app name with a "K".

Also, I checked the apps that are running doing ctrl+esc in kubuntu and could not find firestarter.

The router I am using is a Netgear WGT624 v3.
