Cool. Thanks for the invitation! I downloaded your plugin, and it allowed me to figure out the general idea of how plugins work in PMS! I ended up going a different route because I required a few different ideas:
1. I wanted to use the movie folders that Windows media center stores in the registry.
2. I wanted to have a flat tree like this:
Genre
    Family
[Movie Icon] Friendly DVD Name1 (which is actually net.pms.dlna.DVDISOTitle)
[Movie Icon] Friendly DVD Name2 (which is actually net.pms.dlna.DVDISOTitle)
...but my drive layout was very deep and wasn't even categorized:
v:\
    Family
      UNFRIENDLY_DVD_EXTRACTED_NAME 1
        DVD ISO VIDEO TS Folder
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title1
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title2
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title3
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title4
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title5 (Longest Title)
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title6
      UNFRIENDLY_DVD_EXTRACTED_NAME 2
        DVD ISO VIDEO TS Folder
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title1
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title2
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title3 (LongestTitle)
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title4
[Icon extracted from title] Some Title5
3. Finally, I wanted to be able to customize the folder structure on the fly with the GUI plugin like this:
Rating
    PG
      Release Date
        2009
          Title1
        2010
          Title2
    R
      Release Date
        2008
          Title4
        2011
          Title3
Release Date
    2008
      Title4
    2009
      Title1
    2010
      Title2
    2011
      Title3
It's all pretty much done except I haven't started the GUI for the customizable category tree yet.

@wgilster
Looking good! Please consider porting it for pms-mlx when you're done with it, would be a nice addition.
If you always wanted to have your most recent videos at the top of the folder in the ps3 or wished you could group all videos with the same genre in one folder, have a look at pms-mlx

Wow, I have to rewrite this again a third time! Do you have a plugin thread I can ask you some questions on to see if your plugin would be a better fit? I basically built what you you've already done with the net.pms.external.AdditionalFoldersAtRoot plugin type, but I use Windows Media Center to gather the information and my mechanism isn't extensible at the moment.

You don't have to ;) pms-mlx is a build I'm maintaining. It has additional plugin systems and yours would fit in nicely. If you know what you're doing converting an AdditionalFolderAtRoot to a DlnaTreeFolderPlugin should take about 30min. Just post in the pms-mlx thread if you have questions.

There is a problem with kinopoisk.ru plugin.
They've changed some html code and plugin doesn't show anything but movie title.

Hi there all,

I was in a good mood so I decided to check out the latest sourcecode for the movieInfo plugin and see If I could get the trailers working again.
And I got them working again :-) took about 5 min, with the help of some old source I had laying around.
You will need the latest version of pmsencoder 1.5.11 for it to work. And the latest 1.50 pms
Now you can go into the IMBD info and click the title link where you could normally see the movieposter.
Here two trailer links will be added, Youtube and Google. I won't promise the trailer will be the correct trailer, but hey, it's a start.

I'll add the sourcecode as an eclipse workspace and the compiled jar as well. Rename from .zip to .jar

Have fun with it.

HI,
OK, probably a silly question, but how do I install this plugin?

  • Find the PMS "plugins" directory (the Traces tab will tell you where it is located)
  • Quit PMS
  • Download the plugin file into the plugins directory
  • Rename the file from "MovieInfoNew.zip" to "MovieInfoNew.jar"
  • Start PMS
The Traces tab should show that it successfully loaded the new plugin and you should see some new button at the bottom of the "General configuration" tab.

Is anyone else seeing HTML code in the genre tag? This just started occurring (maybe something changed on IMDb). Tried MovieNewInfo above to no avail.

As far as continued development, thanks for everyone's efforts to keep this grear plugin going. To that end, can I suggest, that we stick with one naming and version enumeration convention (e.g. movieinfo-0.3.6) before we have 75 different named and randomly enumerated versions in the thread? Just a thought.

Cheers!
