Does anyone find certain video types stutter regardless?

Postby fourfourfun » Fri Nov 04, 2011 8:03 pm

Been a lurker on here reading through the variety of stuttering threads to no avail. Currently going through an upgrade of Java as a last ditch hope.

The funny thing I've been finding is that some 720p TV rips I have been watching stream without batting an eyelid. .MKV too so thats transcoding. Yet I've been watching some DVD sourced material, 480p with 2 channel 192kbps audio, and the thing freezes like a crazy thing. Oddly I switched to Tversity to see if an alternative program had any joy and the stuttering appears in the same places. Its pretty much universal across the entire series, plus another unrelated series, so not appearing to be an isolated issue.

Posting in here in the hope of canvassing opinion and experiences from the crowd. Usually prefer to be a self helper but now getting to the limit of my knowledge.

This seems to have been fixed with v1.5 from a brief scan. I actually solved this myself by always heading to the transcode folder.

I still seem to suffer with stuttering issues though. A pause for a while tends to solve these but its almost as if I can't get the data fast enough, something I think is strange for an X4 955 Phenom with 8GB ram. Looking at the buffer bar on the main panel, the blue bar always seems to be mainly full and my system usage is nowhere near maxed.

Things that I am going to try next:

* 5mb/s bandwidth limit in General Configuration
* that Java tweak to make the buffer larger than 600mb (technically, I could fit most of my entire films in my buffer!)

I'm on wifi, but even playing with the variety of "for wifi" settings doesn't seem to help.

Unfortunately wifi is unreliable and can suffer from all sorts of random interference.

It's weird because it used to be so stable yet it's completely gone to pot on both ps3s. Just been watching something that went really juddery and the ps3 was saying it was receiving 40mbps of data. Don't think that can be right.

Convinced that there must be something I can do.
