Restart Server - Button

Postby squadjot » Thu Nov 10, 2011 4:51 pm

Restart button.. nice that it's possible to restart server any time .. but it was also nice to know wich changes in settings actually required a restart.

How do i know now?

If you always wanted to have your most recent videos at the top of the folder in the ps3 or wished you could group all videos with the same genre in one folder, have a look at pms-mlx

I'd propose changing the icon. Changed saturation a bit. Adding a tool tip could help understand the difference

or keep the hue setting, and add a small one of these in one of the corners Image

I don't think a color change is obvious enough, and I'm not sure colorblind people would notice it at all.

I would rather suggest a popup saying something like "PMS needs to be restarted to activate these settings. Restart now? (Restart now) (Later)".
It's more "in your face" and more like how other programs handle such situation.

I generally dislike popups.. unless they're critically necesary..

A popup won't do. We can't show one every time e.g. a transcoding engine gets moved, disabled and whatever else will require a restart. A state has to change the first time a setting requiring a restart is being modified and stay like that until the user has clicked the button. I'd say changing something with the button would be best.

Committed in r985. Now it's easy to change what's being triggered in setReloadable of LooksFrame again

Why does PMS require this many restarts anyway?

Moving or disabling a transcoding engine hardly seems restart-worthy, to be honest.

I took a bad example, changing engines doesn't require a restart... E.g. Enabling iTunes does (this could be avoided by implementing refreshchildren in rootfolder). Changing the nic will also require a refresh and can't be avoided
