DTS Music Playback Support (DTS-WAV)

Postby Dl2agoon » Mon Mar 09, 2009 7:05 am

First of all, I love this software, and heavily appreciate the coders and the dedication that goes towards its development.

Currently if you try to play a DTS-WAV (44.1hz) file the PS3 upsamples to 48hz it and results in static.

There are a couple hurdles that I can think of. (I'm sure there's more.)
● Detecting the DTS-WAV. That or require the user to change the file ext to .dts, which is acceptable IMO.
● DTS-WAV's are 44.1hz and will need to be upsampled/transcoded to DTS 48hz. (for Toslink playback via PS3)

Please consider this, and Thank You for your time.

P.S. You know... I have .AC3 music files that could use similar treatment as well, but that might be asking for too much...)

EDIT: Seems the current behavior of handling .dts files is downmixing and decoding the stream to 2ch PCM.
As previously stated, DTS-WAV .wav's are just static.
This is my signature... Deal with it ^_^

that's on the TODO list somewhere, but for 5.1 support, those will need to be played from the video section :\

One more question.
Is it possible to add Flac [5.1 96/24] to dts transcoding to the list as well? (As You might have noticed, I lack HDMI. -_-)

Again, Thank you for your time.

I don't think there's an open source dts encoder out there... (or even free)

This problem is the same on my system,I have about 50 DTS wave cds and non will play via the Ps3. I have to retain a separate Media player (Dlink 320) to play them, which requires transfer of leads etc (A real Pain when they are inside concealed units).
I have tried both DTS and Wave as file types but neither succeed,I must admit that I did manage to play a file as a PCM in stereo but have been unable to repeat the success. All settings had remained unchanged from the previous success
I have altered file from wave to DTS
I have tried force DTS recode but no succes
I have tried to play as a Video to retain 5.1 but file does not show

Even if you can get the file to play in PCM it comes out as stereo which if you have a 7.1 system defeats the reason you obtained music in this form in the first place'

This software is way out in front on the video side, can it be that an 5 year old D LINK DSM 320 has it beaten with audio DTS music files?

I hope it is possible to get these files to play in 5.1 format via the Ps3 Media Server and then for me at any rate I will have almost obtained perfection (Still have to install each time I shut PC right down so leave in sleep mode)

DTS-WAV could be played from VIDEO folder only so you must ask Shagrath if he will show these kind of files(.wav, .cue, .bin etc.) in VIDEO folder of PS3 and mux this audio with dummy video in PMS to be played on PS3. ;)
It is not possible to play it from music section.

Yes guys. I did it.
Wav DTS playback from movie menu on ps3.
I need to generate a mp4 h.264 from quicktime with the video duration same as the wav. without audio.
Then i use the mkvmerge GUI v2.3.0 to code a mkv combination of this mp4 and the DTS wav.
Go perfectly.

Old post...With new PS3 firmwares you can play DTS-WAV directly from MUSIC category. More info is somewhere here in forum ;)
