Video Shuttering even with no transcoding

I have a Pentium 4 - 2.80 GHz with 4 GB of ram.

I am attempting to stream videos via wireless N. I am using 2 Linksys Wrt150n routers running dd-wrt firmware. One router is used in bridge mode and connected to the PS3 in order to be able to stream at 802.11n speeds.

The videos I am streaming shutter if I am attempting to stream a 1080p video. I am able to steam 720p videos that average 7-10 mbps but anything higher will shutter.

All my videos are supported by the PS3 so no encoding is needs.

How is it that I am not able to stream a video (even one that is around 30 mbps) on a network that has the capability of speeds of 270 mbps?

Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like you're not truely getting 270MBits/s. A recent review (hxxp://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30538/84/) 802.11n suggest that most wireless-n top out at 80Mbits/s.

first, make sure your network supports the speed you said
try to copy a video and measure the time took

I tried copying a movie to my ps3 and the speed was about 1.75 MB/s (~12 Mbps). So my speeds are not even close to what they should be.

Any suggestions?

If you can't wire cat5 to your PS3, then your only other choices (besides wireless) are: PowerLine (200Mbit high speed version) and Ethernet over Coax. Both alternative solutions are expensive.

I've seen the reviews of the Netgear Ethernet over coax kit, and they look interesting (hxxp://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30743/51/). Netgear makes a Ethernet over Coax kit, however I have not found any on sale.

I'm using the Linksys PowerLine PLK200 kit, and they work better than wireless, but not as good as cat5 Ethernet. I can get close to 85Mbit, with the two devices separated by one room. Of course PowerLine will not work across two different electrical circuits, so make sure your two locations are on the same circuit, before investing in PowerLine. Powerline performance will also vary widely depending on the quality of your electrical circuit, and distance between the two location.

I had a similar problem and was confused by it till i realised that i had my drive hooked up via an old USB 1.1 socket (USB 1.1 allows a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second).

When i switched to the USB 2.0 on my pc then i found the transfer rate and the picture quality obviously improved. It seems very coincidental that your max transfer speed is also 12Mbits/second.

I am not using a USB HDD so that is not the problem. The speeds I am getting are about 3.5-4 MB/s (~30 mbps)
