Network Error shows on the screen

I am installing PSM on a friend's iMac and to give him a taste of the great life i am having with PMS. However, when i play xvid files, or any other videos, it plays fine, i could fast forward and all, but we get "Network Error has Occurred (some number)" blinking on the screen all the time.

His ps3 is wired with a 100MB connection, as well as his iMac.

iMac: OS X 10.5.6
Intel Core 2 Due 3.06 GHz
4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Yes, this is a known issue not specific to OSX. It should only happen with xvid/divx files, and seeking will make it worse. After a couple minutes it will go away though.

but why it happens and is there a possible way to stop it, or prevent it (i am sure you would have suggested, if there was! but i had to ask)

but ok, i tired PMS with a friend's Macbook over the wireless, and it didn't show the error on the screen!! very strange!

No we don't know yet what's causing this, it doesn't seem to be a problem for everyone so it might be network related somehow (that would explain the wired/wireless as well).

In this case, it will be worth giving this a test.
I will be replacing his network with a cad6 cables and gig wired network and post the results.

problem solved!

i placed a Gig switch after the router and between the PS3 and the iMac. all the cables were changes from cad5 to cad6. No network error on the screen anymore.

We are having some issues with wmv files when played in "lossless quality". and wmv files dont play right away, we need to play them from the #Transcoded# folder.

Also, when set on "lossless quality" the video freezes and there are disruptions. I think the iMac have enough hoarse power to play lossless quality without issues, and with the gig connection, there should be no streaming issues.

is it worth it to post the debug.log file? any ideas?

Any idea on how solve the network error on screen without changing wires???

I have a mixed ethernet/wifi environment (iMac on eth to WiFi router and PS3 wifi connected) and get this issue...

I get the "network error" messages using tsmuxer in a wired gigabit environment. Macbook and NAS are set to 8000 MTU (I think the PS3 as well...)

i get the same error all the time, and on my iMAC ffmpeg keeps crashing, anyone know why? I can still watch the movie so its not a HUGE deal, but still annoying getting the error message in the PS3 + MAC...
