RESOLVED: DirecTV HRxx and Hxx Thread

Discuss alternative media renderers (not PS3) supported by PS3 Media Server (e.g. Xbox 360, TVs &c.)

Pretty close to nailing it if you ask me...

Ok I've spent the last id say 4 hours trying to get this to work so...
My Directv box is a HR-22

First off my DirecTv.conf file that can play video nicely (thank you MEncoder) but cant play audio:

#
# To handle the proliferation of bandwidth-intensive HDTV broadcasting, DirecTV rebroadcasts
# local HDTV stations using the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec while employing a newer transmission
# protocol (DVB-S2) over the newer satellites. This allows DirecTV to squeeze much more HD
# programming over its satellite signal than was previously feasible using the older MPEG-2
# compression and DSS protocol it has been using. This technology will be gradually expanded
# to the existing satellites as customer equipment is replaced with new MPEG-4-capable receivers.
#
# From the DirecTV forum:
# bob_nielsen writes -
# Your DLNA server should be recognized.  Acceptable formats are MPEG2 video, MP3 or LPCM (wav)
# audio or JPEG pictures.
# dcd writes -
# I'm not sure, but here are the parameters I have my MPEG2 video converter set to and it plays back

fine.
# Encode codec MPEG2/MP2, video bitrate 5,000 kbps, audio bitrate 224 kbps. This is about 2200

[Thread-30] DEBUG 21:12:40.796 Stopping process: win32/mencoder_mt.exe

now... i think... if there is a way to tell MEncoder to use the audio bitrate of 224 i think it might work.

P.S. iv also scowered the DirecTV forum and added some clippings of that into the .conf file.

Please test this everyone and let me know if you get the same results.

I was also thinking about changing the max width and height back to 0.

curious to note if the directv box auto switches resolutions... i didn't notice if it did or not...

Dev's and Mods - what am i doing wrong?

Everytime i set MediaInfo=True i get Black video No Audio.

when i set the MediaInfo=False

with these settigns i can get Video from Mencoder but still saying This audio not supported.

How can i, in the conf, force Mencoder, to use a specific audio codec?

DirecTV HR24/500 Receiver

Postby Espionage724 » Wed Dec 07, 2011 1:21 pm

Hi, I recently discovered last night that PMS could be used with devices.. that aren't a PS3 :p With that knowledge, I decided to try this software out.

I've tried TVersity and Playon in the past. Both worked, but neither had subtitle support (TVersity I think can have it, didn't look too much into it), and both were pretty bulky imo (maybe not Playon that much).

I have a DirecTV HR24/500 receiver, and my main objective is to be able to stream .mkv videos to it. A large bonus would be to have subtitle support too, and another bonus would be to somehow have video playlists or a way to continuously play a list of videos instead of playing one at a time.

But first thing is first, being able to play .mkv's. By default, my receiver can see PMS and the videos, but it couldn't play anything (every video had a "X" on it). Using this guide helped me be able to see my videos in a playable state on the Media Browser, but trying to play any video results in a black screen on my TV. There doesn't appear to be any Transcoding errors or anything either on PMS. This happens on both .mkv and a .avi video I tried.

Edit: Hmm, seemed to of gotten video to work (not entirely sure what I did though), however, audio doesn't play. Subtitles work fine though. I'll try seeing if there's anything that can be done about it

Edit2: Nvm, I somehow broke video completely now, and I'm not even sure how :(

Anyone have any type of feedback? I have a feeling I should play aound with these settings:

Code: Select all
# [Supported video formats]:
Supported = f:mpegts      v:mpegts   n:2     a:mpegts    m:video/mpeg

# [Supported audio formats]:
Supported = f:mpegts      v:mpegts     a:mpegts    m:video/mpeg

# [Supported image formats]:
Supported = f:jpg   m:image/jpeg

The receiver right now can play video with no audio (I'm not sure if it even recognized those changes or not, idk, The sections with mpegts were not that by default). I heard the receiver can only play back audio on a video when it's presented in mpegts instead. I have no idea how to do that though.

:!: :!: :!: :!: NEW DEVELOPMENT :!: :!: :!: :!:

So in the process of updating my server because my old server is starting to fail on me (it is 10 years old after all) I decided to update the Directv.conf, while the files form the old to the new were being copied over.. (it took a few hours..)

So but in the process of updating the Directv.conf i decided to rummage around over at directv.com and the mediashare options sections -- Long story short.. it looks liek another media renderer called mezzemo... so my curriosity spiked.. "wow someone got it to work with this!? what does it use... " Turns out it uses FFshow... and a WHOLE SLEW of switches... and log jumbo...

So i streamed a few movies with it to my h25 box and sure enough.. it needs transcoding -- and video and sound work great...

(as soon as the file transfering is done ill post up the transcode logs so we all can figure out how to get PS3mediaserver to do the same.)

Promising hopes for the PMS/Directv World.

Did you ever get this working? I would love to stream to all my DVR's as well. I got it working partially on a software called Servio, but it produces on 2ch stereo sound.
