Anyone using Java 7 yet?

Since PS3 Media Server is a Java-based application, I thought I'd find out if anyone has started running PMS with the latest version of the Sun JRE: JRE 7!

In the Java world, it seems to be a pretty significant release, as it was 5 years ago that Java 6 (1.6.0_0) came out.

Sooo... anyone using JRE 1.7.0_0 with PMS yet? Looking for a guinea pig...

I tried it a couple of weeks ago and found the performance quite poor (terrible videp artifact, stuttering, sound distortion, etc) It was unusable, reverted to 6u26 and all was well. Maybe it was just my particular frankensteined build of PMS. Be interesting to know how others are fairing.

Just a notice, for those sticking with Java 6 - Oracle has posted build 27 lately. So that brings you up to 6u27.

I might actually try 6u27 before I "experiment" with Java 7 on my main box.

Just ran the automatic update today to jre7 and PMS doesn't run at all. After uninstalling 7 it's ok again....

hi i just recently compiled on latest jdk 1.7.0_02 for windows it runs perfectly using the installer or from start menu or desktop shortcut ie running the PMS.exe will run ps media server using java 7 which im now using. i have had no issues runs even faster loads quicker. only trouble im having is i cant start the service on java 7 only java 6. but the PMS.exe launches the app in java 7 ok if i dont use the service wrapper.

im going to try an updated version of the wrapper and the standard one instead. or maybe the wrapper.conf is needed to be set differently on java 7 then java 6 not sure how the PMS.exe runs once i figure out that i hope i can get service to start.

but i have not had any issues if anything i have had more improvement.

i seemed to have solved wrapper service it seems u cant have wrapper.java.maxmemory= any higher then 768 untested tho i had it originaly set to 1536 with jre6 and no issues however if u set wrapper.java.maxmemory=1536 for example it will not start the service so i set to the default 768 the PMS.exe and PMS.bat file as they loaded ps3 media server on jre7 fine using default settings and the service also started with the wrapper.java.maxmemory @ 768, not sure how much i can icrease it too before it crashes but going to try to increase as much as i can and report back here with the final wrapper.java.maxmemory that can be used on latest jre7 on windows 7 32bit
