Do you guys think Intel Core2Duo 1.86Ghz Mac Mini is capable of transcoding 1080p material?

Hmmm I've got Mac Mini 1.86Ghz and 1080p videos aren't smooth at all!

On my second machine with Intel C2D 2.1Ghz I'm able to play them smoothly by increasing CACHE size to 600MB (it's stuttering on 400MB a bit)


Anyone here with Intel Mac getting smooth playback? This applies to OSX as well as Windows XP SP2 - got them both. I don't really think that Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz isn't capable of transcoding them as I can play 1080p without any problems!!! During playback and/or transcoding CPU is being used in like 60% only giving plenty of breathing power! Is is something that can be tweaked in new release?

Meaning what, that you can play 1080P directly on the Mac just fine? You're missing the big point that transcoding videos for the PS3 means that you're changing the video to MPEG2, which is much less efficient than say H264. This can be very resource intensive.

Side note, if you're running only at 60% CPU usage, make sure you've set up PMS to use 2 cores in the transcoder general settings.

Yep, my Mac Mini handles 1080p playback without any problems at all.

Transcoding is using both cores indeed, I just think this feature its not optimized as yet...
