Official Release:
Found here viewforum.php?f=8
This is the actual working version of PMS. It has been tested and is known to work for most stuff.
So you should always go with the official release? As with all software no matter how good you test your code there are things not working there. Things that might have been fixed later on that will end up in a release later on.
SubJunk Build (SB):
Found here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=8883
Since SubJunk is one of developers of the project this is a semi official beta build. The SB contains all those patches and fixes since latest release plus some other new stuff (like new versions of mencoder/ffmpeg etc.) and even some real experimental stuff that are just test balloons. If you are having trouble with some movie not playing the SB is the build that will likely solve it first.
SharkHunter Build (SHB):
Found here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10854
The SHB aims at ease of installation. Like SB it includes patches since latest release plus it bundles a lot of third-party tools and plugins, among other PMSEncoder (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6644) and Channels (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9329#p42583). SHB is a web centric build focusing of finding streams on the web. If you got windows and you just want to watch some web TV start here.
Latest SVN build
Found here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=9798
This is the build for real daredevils. If you can't find your fix anywhere and you're not afraid to get your hands dirty this is the build for you. This is not actually a build but it is YOU who make the build, you fetch the source code and build it yourself. You'll get the really latest code plus you can add your own addons! This is how all other builds got started. If this is the build for you run along to http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/source/checkout
Pms-mlx
Found here viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9775
This build focuses of getting a better folder layout. The default PMS is a bit rough but this build allows you organize your files in your own way regardless of how the files actually are spread on the disc.
Latest Beta
Found here viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3217
This has not been updated for quite sometime and is probably replaced by the SB.
ExSports Build
Found here http://code.google.com/p/pms-exsport/downloads/list
Like SHB and SB it stays on the track of the latest changes, and then adds it's own stuff. Here you'll also find the twists and tweaks of mencoder/ffmpeg/mplayer that might get your movie to play.
So there you go now all you need to do is pick.
