PMS Remote Control

Postby Cpt. eMco » Tue Apr 05, 2011 6:56 pm

The server running PMS on my network is a Debian box, without a GUI. This makes is quite hard to configure, a problem which more people on the forums are having.

In an attempt to resolve this, I'm working on a method to configure PMS via the (PS3) webbrowser. Now what I would like to know, if there's any interest in this by other users. If so, I could release the code for others to use.

Please let me know what you guys think, I've included a few images to give an impression of what I'm working on.

Nice, seems we've got the same idea :) I've been working on a port to use the same client GUI through web services here. The GUI itself isn't functional at all yet (except the part where you choose the server(s) to connect to), but the plugin exposing the web service and the web service client are. In the long term I'd also like to make the media library functionality from the pms-mlx build available, but that is a bit more complicated then accessing the current configuration.
I'd be curious to know how you've expose the configuration; I'm exposing the same methods as the ones available in PmsConfiguration and am not too happy about the 100 or so getters and setters. Did you find a better way?
I think it would be a good thing to have a single interface (as a plugin or built into pms) that everyone wanting to create a GUI upon could use.
If you always wanted to have your most recent videos at the top of the folder in the ps3 or wished you could group all videos with the same genre in one folder, have a look at pms-mlx

It's nice to see the idea was good enough for someone else to try it out as well :)

To control pms from another application, on another pc, I've added a socket server to pms, which receives commands and transmits logs. The external client is written in PHP, but I'm planning to make at least API's for use in other languages, to create gui's for e.g. an android or ios device.

The problem of a lot of getters and setters is one I'm facing as well, there are some other ways around this, but it might introduce some security issues. When all methods are done and the server is ready, I don't think it would be a problem, but if I find another way to do this, I'll let you know.

Hi,

I would be interested in this as well. I use unRAID and it would be much easier to administer through a webui.

post some download links so we can try it out then will let u know if interested lol :) but yeah in theory i would use this dependent on memory consumption, ease of use and compatibility with future pms upgrades.. but wiling to give it a shot..

I have QNAP NAS running on Linux

The QNAP admins already made a fully working GUI web interface for it's PMS users that controls the server, you can restart it, change the PMS.conf files etc
Its so simple to use, because it's a php site with secure login, it can be hosted to be accessed remotely anywhere you have a browser :D

It's available free to download for QNAP users - http://www.qnap.com/QPKG.asp

Here are some screen shots showing how it works, you can also view the log viewer. I can confirm it works on the iOS and android browser too

Hi, which QNAP are you running? I have a 219P and I am not sure I would by able to install the prerequisite Java runtime environment since they do not show a compatible version for the 219P (Marvel processor). I would think I would be able to find a JRE somewhere for that processor. Is the installation process for PS3MS documented somewhere?

Thanks

Marvel processors are not compatible with PMS

Im using the TS-639 Pro QNAP running x86 Intel Chip. Once you have a Intel based QNAP you can download from http://www.qnap.com/QPKG.asp
