PS3 Not finding PS3 Media Sever on start up!!

Strange issue here!

At "random" times when I turn on my PS3 the PS3 Media Server is not listed on the PS3 media cross bar. But then all I have to do is rescan for servers and then the PS3 finds it right away.

I really wish the PS3 would always find PS3 Media Server everytime when it starts up for the first time. I don't like having to rescan for servers.

Again this is very random when it happens.

Any idea what the problem is? Has anyone else seen this issue?


I also run "PlayOn Media Server" and "WMP 12 media Server" and the PS3 always finds those 2 at start up. Only PS3 Media Server has this issue.

My specs are Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 gHz 4GB of Ram and Windows 7 Beta

This bug happens on both gigabit and wireless connections.

I am seeing this issue happen with every build of PS3 Media Server including the latest Beta Build 1.10.306

There's numerous posts about this in the more recent versions. From my experience you have two options:

* Perform a manual scan for servers
* Simply wait 2-3 minutes after the initial start of the PS3 and PMS will automatically populate in the XMB

You'll have to repeat this every time you power the PS3 off and back on.

So which is preferred?

Power on PS3, then launch PMS or launch PMS, then power on PS3?

PMS is running on my Windows Home Server. Thus I leave it running 24x7. I suspect the delay in it showing in the XMB will be changed in a future version.

Looking at the debug.log posted, I don't see any M-SEARCH queries coming from your PS3. I am guessing you have a firewall on your Windows desktop blocking multicast. As such, PMS never sees the M-SEARCH query to send a NOTIFY packet, so it ends up needing to wait for the next ALIVE packet for notification.
