Maybe you could add the commands below in the first post so that others could easily spot the findings we have made?

Code: Select all
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5331377/mencoder-mt.tar.gz
sudo yast2 -i libpng12-0 libjpeg6 libass4 libmad0 libbz2-devel liba52-0 libbs2b0
sudo ln -s /usr/lib64/libbz2.so /usr/lib64/libbz2.so.1.0
sudo ln -s /usr/lib64/liba52.so.0 /usr/lib64/liba52-0.7.4.so
mv /usr/bin/mencoder /usr/mencoder
ln /usr/bin/mencoder-mt /usr/bin/mencoder

Could someone take a look at the below?
This is running "top" when the server is idling. It only happens now and then, mostly it idles at ~0% but 50% seem wrong!
It look like Java is up to something weird...

sorry, got pretty busy and didn't have much time to do a whole lot of anything. Thought I would just get the new version out the door and save people the hassle.

Code: Select all
version 0.3.1 (02/26/2011)
  [+] Multithreaded mencoder (2+ core users rejoice), install using the command `enable-mencoder-mt`. (64-bit only) (thanks Joksi for your testing)
  [*] Fixed typo in Transmission init.d script

No problems.
If I would want to update to the latest version, do I have to reinstall the server?
I'm asking also for future upgrades, because I have made some modifications and likewise that are going to be wiped out when the yast2 live-installer repartitions all the disks! Ie PSM config file, installed SNMPd, changed config files to move /shared to /home on it's own partitions and so on...

You can customize the installation so that it doesn't repartition all disks/partitions. Although you would still need to repartition the main partition and re-install any additional applications and config files you've done. So it can still be a pain.

Right now the only thing stopping me from allowing you to roll with the updates is to have a repo setup so that you can update some packages.

openSUSE 11.4 is coming out soon, so maybe what I'll do starting with PMServ based on 11.4, is make a repo for PMServ and make it so you can just roll with the updates instead of having to re-install. This way the only time you would need to do a complete installation is if you want to upgrade the version of openSUSE as new versions are released and PMServ is updated for them.

Hiya, just wondering if this supports renderer .conf file aka the windows build? So that I can get other devices to play media. Cheers

Yes it does, just put them in: /opt/ps3mediaserver/renderers/

great stuff. I edited the bravia ex .conf file so as to include me ex403 and it deffinately sees it alright now. And .avi's are working brilliantly, with scaling working well. However I can't seem to load the .mkv files. It sees them from the tele and seems to start loading them fine, then I get some info at the top of the screen and then the play sign on the tele comes up but followed immediately by the pause icon. I tried to used the .conf file I use when running succesfully in windows and I get the same thing. It chooses different encodes but no matter what I select including the options in transcode folder, I get the same result. Any ideas?

Thought maybe it might not be letting if buffer enough, however when running from windows it doesn't normally take that long to start playing a 720p .mkv file
fyi, movie info for MPC: Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x528 23.98fps [English (Video 1)]
Audio: DTS 48000Hz 6ch [Undetermined (Audio 1)] audio also appears as dca using another tool

Hey all,
Must say this is one of the coolest applications of Linux I have come across (although I am still sort of a linux noob, and have only used ubuntu). I was messing around with this on an old comp I am using as a home server and I would like to add print server capabilities to this setup. Is there an easy way to have the server broadcast and share its printer through command line? All the tutorials I am coming across for opensuse are requiring me to have a gui. Thanks for the help.

Thanks thomascooper4, always nice to hear when people enjoy pmserv.

As for your printer sharing, you'll want to install CUPS:

Code: Select all
sudo yast2 -i cups

then edit the /etc/samba/smb.conf file. Change the following global config options:

Code: Select all
[global]
load printers = yes
printing = CUPS
printcap name = CUPS

and then add a printers section:

Code: Select all
[printers]
path = /tmp
printable = yes
guest ok = yes
browseable = no

That's the basic gist of it, at least it's a push in the right direction.
