[Solved] Remuxing/transcoding bad for hard drive?

hello

Since i tried ps3mediaserver, i've been wondering where all that real-time remuxing/transcoding was happening on the hard drive?

I have the OS set on a specific drive and store my files on other drives to avoid too much fragmentation caused by constant use of the OS.
A really nice thing would be to set up a temporary space where all the "work" would be done and thus could leave the OS partion or storage partitions alone, i don't know but just prefer to ask than stay in the dark

I'm pretty sure that most of the transcoding and remuxing is done in memory.

PMS uses "named pipes" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Named_pipe) for communication between the different programs so there is very little use of real diskspace.

(I might be wrong about this, if I am I guess I will be corrected)

One of the reasons Shagrath created this server is that he was tired of the TVersity-esque method of creating temp files on the harddrive for transcoding.
