mencoder zombie processes

Postby mkvguy » Thu Dec 30, 2010 7:08 pm

I'm using Fedora Linux and I've tried all the available versions/hacks of PMS (except the pmsjunk one which seems to be for Windows only).

All of them leave zombie processes of mencoder. It happens if I stop a movie, or even if the movie ends on its own.

If I start/stop a movie several times, it leaves zombie mencoder processes for each time I've start/stoped a movie!

So I have to remember to kill each process by hand once I've finished watching a movie.

Any ideas please?

I've already tried it, made no difference.

PS:
Actually, that is the version I tried last, so I still have it installed.

Hello,

After many research, i have found an alternative solution for "auto kill" zombie of MEncoder.

I use ps-watcher (http://ps-watcher.sourceforge.net/), it'a a perl script running as daemon.

Here my config file:
[mencoder]
trigger = elapsed2secs('$etime') > 6*HOURS
occurs = every
action = kill -9 $pid

------
ps-watcher run every 10min, and search if a process mencoder run since 6 hours...

Basic, dirty, but run...
